This may have been mentioned before but...

Can anyone tell me what shifter/brake lever Armstrong is using in this picture?
Its just his left one. Looks campy-ish

If I can get the pic up.

that's just a regular D/A non-STI lever. he uses a downtube shifter for the front rings on...his climbing bike....and maybe on the TT bike as well, but i'm not sure about that one...

Yes, he uses a downtube shifter on his climbing bike to save weight. His shifters on his TT bike are at the end of the aero bars.

Thanks for clearing that one up for me, fellas.

Its something I only just noticed. Is it just a custom job for the UPS team?

No, it's not custom at all. Shifters integrated into the brake levers are still a fairly new invnetion in terms of how long bikes have been around. Until then, shifters were mounted on the downtube, so you had to reach down to shift. Campy and Shimano both still make brake-only levers and downtube shifters. STI (or ergo) levers make shifting more convenient, but weigh more. Since Lance figures he won't be shifting between the big and small chainrings very much during a climb, he sacrifices the convenience of STI so he can save a little weight.

Lance is just old enough to have used downtube shifters for quite sometime before intergated systems became popular.
