I was hiking through Las Trampas today at lunch with my dog, and the breeze freshened noticeably. Not only that, but it was blowing from the east and I started smelling smoke. Soon enough, the air was hazy and it felt like it was closing in - just like back in June:notamused:

I was talking with a ranger on the way out, and he said there must be a fire further east (Livermore? Central Valley?). The air is real hazy and smoky all over around here right now.

There's been a constant smoke screen in the air up here. Ever since the 1600+ fires from the lightning storm there has not been one day I've looked over the valley and not seen some distant smoke trail drifting across the sky. It's really depressing when you're descending off you favorite hill and you can't even see the valley floor, just smoke.

Back in August I was in LA for my brother's wedding. After the wedding, I took the family to Disneyland and met some people from Oregon and Washington...the smoke from the fires this past summer blew north into Oregon and was really choking the air up there.

I grew up in LA in the seventies; lived there for my first three decades. While the smoke up in Sacramento was bad this past year...I'd rather have smoke over the smog and that was really choking me and burning my eyes those two weeks back in LA.

It's going to continue being fire season until we get a decent amount of rain. Hopefully it would rain more this winter...many area reservoirs are below normal. I don't like riding in the rain, but then I would rather avoid droughts and breathing in smoke.
