Anyone riding the Tour de Doughnut? November 2, 2008 from Katy Mills Mall. Last year they had a few problems with the route and rest stops, but I'm sure they're in better shape for 2008. To those who ate the donuts and raced, please puke on the grass along the route not in the street. Thanks.

The problems with some of the rest stops not having enough supplies were due to the great weather and lots of extra non pre-registered riders showing up. They are hopping to have those issues solved this year.

My boyfriend actually agreed to do this with me. I think he's in it just for the donuts. I need to get him off the x-box and onto his bike!

I'm only in it for the donuts.

I'm riding along with about 10 others on my team. Should be a great time.

I'm still not sure, as I'm running a 5K the day before.

From what I understand - each donut consumed gives the rider a 5-min. time credit. Do they have people watching the drivers to count how many they're eating or something? Can you just grab a handful and eat while you're riding and still get credit for the time (this would seem to me to be the most efficient use of time)?

I WAS gonna do it. I'm gonna still try. Gotta checked checked out by the orthopod and make sure I'm not gonna rip any more stuff trying to go fast.

I can always borrow a hand crank bike and rely on the power of my stomach.

I am visiting my parents this weekend out in cypress so I will be within biking distance so I will be there for sure. Out of curiosity how do they keed track of the doughnuts?

I should be there, but the night before could be rough! Texas Tech vs texas game will mean partaking in plenty of adult beverages, and not going to sleep early. Could be very tired and slightly off balance, if you see the guy stumbling over to his bike watch out.

You already know who is going to win, just go to sleep early. :)

I gotta work that day. I've wanted to ride this event for at least 3 years and was even willing to overlook the fact the first year I heard about it that they were using Krispy Kreme donuts (kinda low rent compared to Shipley's).

Anyway if stereotypes were accurate y'all know the winner is going to be a rider like Rex G anyway (in Rex's defense I think the stereotype isn't very accurate).

Might have to break out the fenders.

:notamused:They had the flu, I'm sure that's what it was. I was at work, didn't get to see...maybe that's a good thing. The only game that matters is Texas A&M v. UT.

What a weekend, first Halloween, followed by an incredible football game saturday night, and then a very early (thank goodness for the time change) ride from Katy Mills. The ride went really well I though, I did the 55 mile MS training ride, not the donut ride. I did eat one donut on the ride simply for the sake of the name of the ride. We had beautiful weather, and everything I saw was handled really well considering they had ~1500 riders there! Coming back in on the last few miles where we caught up with the 28 mile riders still struggling in got kinda sketchy because they were less reliable in their actions than I am used to.

Thanks to all the supporters we had for the ride this weekend.

I had a blast though I planned on doing the race and my strategy was to skip the first stop and go straight to the second though I took the 55 mile route instead by accident and didn't realize it until right before the second stop. Bummer was I had friends waiting at the other second stop to cheer me on and make sure I ate at least 2 dozen. The real bummer was I running on empty didn't eat the night before or breakfast and really over did it on the first hour thinking I was only doing the 28. Oh well I wasn't the only one who made the wrong turn I saw one other with a timing chip at the second rest stop I ate half a dozen doughnuts but the weren't counted. FYI they posted pictures of the ride already on the website and results to be posted later tonight.

Glad everyone had a great time at the Donut Ride!! Wish I could have been there. So did they give everyone that 'competed' a timing chip? How cool - I really wanted one of those for the MS150 in April.

Nate, the only game that matters is A&M vs. UT? I love both UT and Tech, but that sounds a little 'sore loser-ish' to me. Oh well...to each his own. Maybe someday you'll give credit where credit is due...funny thing - my 'UT is the only school that counts' neighbor wouldn't come out of his house yesterday either. ;)

Great weather, good rest stops, and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I heard that a guy ate 40 donuts during the ride!

I ran across a rider with a chip about 40 miles into the 55 mile ride, I spoke with them as my group passed them by. They said they intended to only do the 28, but took a wrong turn. Sounds like the same situation as you had, no idea if it was you or not, cause dang there were alot of people out there!

Funny I was passed by a group that mentioned that at about that distance when they passed, if it was this guy then yes it was me. I was tempted to just eat more doughnuts to make up the difference on the 55 but man that would be a lot of doughnuts technically it could be done.

Haha, my school (University of St. Thomas) doesn't have a football team, so I'm a fan of all Texas Football, except for A&M.:roflmao2:

Well... maybe there were fewer than we thought to do that, I am pretty sure that it was you that I said that to. I was hoping that you would be able to jump on the pace line and get a little benefit for a bit. I know if I came out to to 28 and suddenly doubled it I would not have prepped myself for it.

Glad to hear that you were able to finish and survived the ride.

Yeah I was pretty spent at that point nor am I really that familiar with pace line etiquette or signals, which probably wasn't the best combo at the time, last 20 miles or so I just ran solo for the most part thought better to stick with what I am comfortable with when I started the first hour at full throttle.

i rode. orange bike. ate only 5 donuts, greatly overestimating how many donuts i thought i'd ride.
i went out the night before which probably ruined my apetite for delicious shipleys.

Yeah, I overestimated how many donuts I could eat too. Exercise kills my hunger. I still managed 8 (5 at first, 3 at second). My chip time was over 3 hours, though, 3:03:23 minus 40 minutes donut bonus for 2:23:23. I'm still pretty weak. I just started riding a few weeks ago after 10 years off a bike.

i finished the 28 at about 2 hours 40 min. i forgot how much time i spent at the stops though. and i went by the clock as i passed it, didn't have a timing chip.
