Eight different riders today...E I G H T !! All of them on the wrong side of the road, riding against traffic. Ugh! All grown adults and not one wearing a helmet.

Please new commuters, get a clue.

I ride through a college part of town and those guys are everywhere. I go way wide because I can't trust any of them to even ride in a straight line.

(And during the winter, I'm lucky to see eight bikes... all week. :P)

I hear you there. Between the broken glass and the wrong-way tweekers, my commute is never boring.

Don't forget all the idiotic riding we see here in town. Remember, we don't just live near a college part of town, we live IN a college town. And one that encourages biking whether you remember how or not.

Yes the masses have no clue. I usually avoid the heavily traveled areas, ie campus and downtown. Watching the freshmen navigate the roundabouts is entertaining though.

That was yesterday. Today is "cut off a vanpool in gridlock trying to get into the moving HOV lane and then mouthing the words 'F U A--hole' while doing it" Day.
I knew I should have commuted by bike.
This day can only get better.

Is that a lot? I think I see 8 in an hour on a regular basis.

I had some gomer with no helmet on an old beater mountain bike riding the wrong way towards me in mountain view once..

I made sure the lane was clear so I could take the lane to go around him on the left. As I went by, he said "you're going the wrong way."

It just set me off and I unleashed a string of obscenities pointing out WHO was going the wrong way, and, in fact, that there were arrows every effing quarter mile of the bike lane pointing out which way to go.

I blame it on the stupid crap we were taught as kids (usually for riding on the sidewalk or something), saying it was safer to ride against traffic because you could see people coming... stupid stupid.

Yep, I see them quite frequently. Not too long ago, on the homeward commute on a busy 4 lane street, I looked across the street and saw a guy, old enough to know better, riding wrong way. And up ahead, a car trying to pull out of an apartment driveway to turn into the oncoming traffic. About 1 second after I was saying to myself "uh-oh", the car pops across the sidewalk into the street, driver looking left, toward the oncoming traffic, away from the cyclist. I see the cycle's front wheel crumple against the car's fender, see the cyclist bounce off the hood, but luckily he was going slow enough that he kind of bounced back onto his bike. No place for me to stop, so I drove on, but could see he was back on his feet. Hopefully not hurt too much, and hopefully wiser from the experience. I know I am, every time I'm in the car in such a situation, I'm looking for those wrong-way cyclists.

Ahh yeah. I lost a nice new (300 miles on it) rear tire to glass yesterday. There was a giant slash right in the heart of the rubber.

I luckily get very few bike salmon on my route, and I admittedly do it myself for like 30ft out of my parking lot! :innocent:
