Northern California - Bike Routes in Monterey

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Velodiva and I will be in Monterey Thursday through Saturday and we are looking for bike routes - 30 to 50 miles. Any ideas?

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, go down the coast to Lucia (~50 Miles) and ride Nacimiento-Fergusson road..... This is a spectacular ride and October is "prime-time". It's basically an out & back, but can be as long as ~40 miles if you follow it into Fort Hunter Liggett..... I wish I could go there..... definitely worth the drive.....

You can ride through the 17 mile drive to Carmel, and loop around while in there. I had no problems getting 30+ miles riding from Carmel to Monterey and back, through the 17 mile drive. It is beautiful scenery, and bikes can go through the toll gates for free.

This site has some good maps for rides in the Monterey area. I did the loop through Ft Ord and it was very nice. Click "Local Rides" on the left.

Carmel Valley sounds a nice ride with a good choice of places to stop for lunch. There's a good hill that crosses to the Salinas Valley so you can make it a loop.

Where will you be staying/starting from?
I've lived here all my life, so if you need local insight, PM me.
Check the local clubs. This route looks good: http://69.93.229.214/~velobell/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/map_b_ride_031604.pdf

We recently rode the 17 mile drive back and forth with my wife, it was very enjoyable. We started in Pacific Grove (near Asilomar) and rode to Carmel where we spent some time on the beach and browsing shops, then came back the same route at the end of the afternoon.
We had driven this route many times in the past always going southbound from Pacific Grove to Carmel but never experienced it going northbound. We found the views more pleasant going North.
Although it was summer, traffic was not an issue as we went during the week.
Thanks for the suggestions. We are at the Intercontinental Hotel just north of the Aquarium. My wife is in a conference today so I rode solo south along the ocean and then did the 17 mile drive. I had lunch at Pebble Beach. It was a beautiful partly cloudy day with temps in the 60s with not too much wind.
