I'm going to volunteer for the Arizona Ironman as a high school student. Do any of you know what the best areas are and what I should sign up for? I'm curious what Communication, Live Spotters, Motorcycles, and VIP do? The whole list of duties is at https://www.nasports.com/volunteer/imarz/index.php

If I were you I would consider being a Wetsuit Stripper or One of the jobs related to T1. That way you will be done before it gets too hot. Then again, I'm basing that on April...it might not be so bad in November.

I think Live Spotters are the people who look at the athletes numbers as they are coming out of the T1 tent and entering T2. They call out the numbers so the people getting the bags and bikes know what to do.

Motorcycles are probably people who ride around with the referees on the back...you probably need your own.

My personal favourite has always been body marking the elite 20-29 y/o females

No matter what you end up doing, good on you for doing it. I reckon everyone who does Tris should volunteer at some stage. I did it a few times last year when I injured an ankle and had a ball, met some great folks, and still felt involved.

have fun.
