Hello,
I currently commute on a Trek STP400 Carbon fiber mountain/city and have been getting an itch to convert my old Trek 6000 into an e bike. I have been reading on this site for about 3 hours straight now.
Just looking for some insight on to what setup would be best for me.
My commute:
20-30 miles
all flat(literally ZERO hills in Miami)
need commute times to be in the 1 hour range or less
Current commuter

My other commuting bike:

Future E bike:

The frame on the Trek 6000 is 6000 series aluminum. I would be running an 8" disc brake in the front and looking for rear drive. Of course i am trying to stay as cost effective as possible.

no way,
i think the best Ebike upgrade, is from BionX
everythig else is just not worth it.
is like a dead weight.
of all the ones, i've seen and compared, BionX is the one that works naturally, and doesn;t weight a ton when you are not using it, or if you ever run out of power.

amped bike kits are better than bionx for the money.
get an awesome rear rack, a bag, and a lifepo4 battery pack and it will be smooth sailing for you.
a 36v / 10ah battery pack should get you across 30 miles of flat land if you are assisting. I have a 10ah pack and I've gone 25-28 miles several times with at least 20% of my trips involving very steep hills. So since you don't even have hills... your motor and battery won't be taxed as hard as mine, it should make it!
eta: the bionx pl500hs with a 36v 9.6a battery pack is $1825.
The amped bike kit comes with the equivalent 500w brushless motor for $380... and you can get the same battery pack from ebay for $400 nowadays... making your total $780.. why is there a $1000 difference here?
Bionx is raping you guys.

And bionix just got bought out. Myself, I think the Crystalyte motor kits are good value with decent performance. I you like 45 to 50mph then the Crystalyte is the one.

Heres the thing. A bionx 350W motor is just a 350W brushless motor thats it.
Its not natural its overpriced. Theres no magic lol. It has a simple pedelec on a standard 350W hub motor.
Crystalytes at 40mph etc... Well on a bike Im not doing over 25 I learned my lesson!
Get a scooter or a street bike if you want to go 40-50 mph.
Be safe!

Here's the magic and it's not overpriced, nor is it a Bionx BrandonTrek..
43MPH! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ls1K8LSvf_E
30-35km distance @ 30km/h Zero Pedalling on a cheap 18ah system. Can be well under $1000 total depending on you.
Check it out,
Unique stuff.. 40MPH is not scary for most who have experienced it often on an electric bike. This bike is not allowed to be
riden at full potential on public roads BY law. What you see is our conclusions, our tests.
