General Cycling Discussion - So, where's the unicycling forum?

These forums seem to have every type of bike... except the unicycle. (or do you not consider it a derivation of a bike?) I have been riding my unicycle for three years now and I can't be the only one! Where are all the unicyclists? Why does it not have an individual forum?

Its hard to wax eloquent about them because of the difficulty in creating or coveting a "build" of a unicyle with gee-whiz accessories and bling.

You obviously need to get out more. Go price some 36" unicycles with geared hubs, handlebars, and brakes.

A unicycle is a cycle, but the "bi" part of bicycle means there are "two" wheels.

That point gets stretched pretty good. Generally, anything pedaled gets welcomed onto the forums here, so the Utility and Recumbent forums will have quite a few posts about 3-wheelers. Before I got my first unicycle a year ago, I asked about it here, and got some very helpful answers. There COULD be a unicycle forum here; it wouldn't be out of place. There's just not.

A bit on the trivia side, but you can have 2-wheel unicycles- the wheels are stacked so that pedaling the top one turns the one below.

There was a unicycling forum here when I original launched bikeforums, it had traffic, but not much, It never took off. The posts were merged into general cycling and the forum was deleted about 7 years ago.

My nephew just bought a unicycle, he dared me to ride it, I declined. :D

No Rohloff that I'm aware of, but the Schlumpf geared hub is $1,000+.

I believe that or similar versions were what the winners were using in the Ride The Lobster unicycle race this last summer.

I always wondered why there's an electric bike sub-forum here. Why not motorcycles as well?

You should try it out! It's easier than it looks really, just make sure you have something to grab onto on either side of you. The way unicycles fall you can always (at least in my case) catch yourself before landing on the ground.
