I picked up my reconditioned bike from the LBS. New wheels, tires, chain and chain rings, cables and handlebars with tape and when I picked it up it had a flat. The tube was changed and when I go home I heard that the sound of sudden air realease and there was another flat. Well back to the shop and the tube was changed. Home overnight and the next day I did my first ride in 15yrs. Ride post to follow.

The next day, flat! Back to the LBS with the instructions to keep the bike until we find out what is going on. The rims are Sun 13 II and the tires were Marathons 700x28. He changed the tires to Maxxis Re-Fuse 700x25. He is telling me that the tires did not ‘fit’ the rims (loose) and pinching the tubes.

I am thinking of going with the City Protect due to the reflective side wall cause i mostly ride at night.

My questions are what do y’all think of the rims, the tires, and the tires / rim combo. What is the / or is there a big difference of a 25 vs 28 tire?

Thanks Y'all!

The Maxxis Fuse tires are actually pretty good, I would ride them until they are dead and need to be replaced. I've never had a flat on mine and I have about 800 miles on them, but I use them as back up for my road bike now.

Don't know anything about the rims though.

Make sure you have good rimstrip inside too. If a spoke hole is exposed, that can cause flats fro the inner dia of the tube. Velox (medical tape looking stuff) is good. Don't settle for the rubber or plastic strip junk!

Thank Brian

That is what i am seeing around the web. I was of the mind set to use a touring tire being my size and all but the marathon may be over kill.

the last flat the innertube was split about 3 inches. I am not thinking that the rimstrip failed but I will be checking.

Thanks.
