Fifty Plus (50+) - N+1

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

After reading about Bombadil's new folding bike purchase I realized that I haven't purchased a bike yet this century. I did acquire a fixed gear bike by stealing a frame from my daughter and building it up with mostly junk box parts but that has been balanced by (gasp) selling a bike. I'm N+0 for the century. Worst of all, I don't even have a desire for another bike. I can't think of one that I need.
Am I doing something wrong or have I reached bicycle acquisition equilibrium?

Yes. This is not normal. I'd encourage to get some good counseling somewhere soon.

Yes, counseling is in order. Even prolonged exposure to this group has not helped.
I've forgotten how many bikes you own Retro.
Maybe you should bicycle off into the Wilderness for a while and spend some time thinking about what you are doing with your life.

Maybe it's just something you ate that didn't agree with you. You'll probably come to your senses in a few days.

Hmmm. Do you suppose it could be something that I didn't eat? I pretty much missed pie ride day for example.

No N+1 and no pie ride?!?!
That does it ... consider yourself to be on double secret probation!

Just sell one of the bikes you have now. N+1 will soon kick in once again since you'll be down one from the equilibrium number.

I don't understand why the mods haven't locked this thread yet. I didn't think N+1 non-believers were allowed to post here.
bicycle acquisition equilibrium?
WTF is THAT!?!
N+1 is a universal constant(like PI), that prevents equilibrium from being reached.
So to keep us all safe, and to keep the universe from collapsing and killing us all, you must acquire a new(or new to you) bike today!

Dumb idea.
I've got 5 kids. They're all grown and gone now but, when they were all living at home, I definitely felt that five was too many. The problem was, I could never figure out which one was excess.
None of my bikes is for sale but I don't want any more either.
