I've been using my DiNotte 600L helmet-mounted for about a year, but now I have a need to use the handlebar mount.

However, based on today's commute, the bar mount does not seem very secure. Specifically, on my bars the mount has a tendency to rotate forward whenever I hit bumps or potholes, resulting in the light pointing more and more down as I ride.

I tried tightening the bracket, but when I tried to tightend it by one turn, I was unable to close the lever.

Has anyone else had problems with the DiNotte bar mount? If so, how did you resolve it?

It's frustrating...the DiNotte lights and batteries are superb, but their mounting options are lame. This is especially true for the the tail light - its Rube Goldberg O-ring system means the light is constantly getting repositioned, and I hate having my high-dollar lights held to my bike by a "rubber band".

I usually use a small piece of rubber shim between the bar and the mount. I lent my 600L out for a while, got it back, stuck it on my bars today, and proceeded to have the slippage problem on my way home tonight. D'oh, I forgot to put the piece of rubber shim between the bars & mount! :(

Solution: I saw a discarded cigarette box on the side of the road, ripped a piece of cardboard off of it, stuck it between the bar and the DiNotte mount, then clamped the mount down again :) Problem solved.

The type of rubber shim I'm discussing is the type that often comes with blinkies, to help adapt their seatpost mounts to various sizes of seatposts. Hope that helps :)

Oh, and as for their taillight, this was my solution: two mounting bands from old Cateye computers, with a touch of custom Dremel work to allow them to achieve this angle:

Primary photon cannon firmly locked onto targets, Captain. No more random re-aiming problem :)

Cut a piece out of an old tube and use it as a shim.

Thanks, mech. I have a variety of shims and I'll give them a try soon (might not ride today - it looks like rain, and I want to get home early to see the VP candidates debate this evening).

As for the taillight...sigh, I just wish something like your system was commercially available (or, preferably, included with the DiNotte). It's a shame that we buy the most expensive tail light on the planet, and yet we're still forced to improvise solutions for attaching it to the bike!

I used two sided exterior grade sticky tape as a shim to keep the 600l mount from slipping. The lever lock on the handlebar mount should probably be replaced by a nut and semi cylinder to mate the nut. No need for the quick release lever because the light has a quick release. I am less than happy with this, but I have semi aero bars and just chalked it up to that. Maybe this is more of a problem then what I had estimated?

Overall, I am very happy with the rest of the light system- 600/400/400 rear.
