Fifty Plus (50+) - Introduction

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Not sure if this is the proper place, but I just wanted to introduce myself to the board. I have posted a few times but I figured I would let you all know a little about myself. My name is Dave and I am 50 years old. I currently live in the North Western Part of North Carolina, I am originally from Pittsburgh. I retired from law enforcement after 27 years and now work as the manager of narcotic diversion investigation at a large hospital here in NC. My wife (53) and I just started riding bikes a little over 2 months ago and we really enjoy it. We do between 25 to 30 mile on both saturday and sunday and we try to get about 10 miles a day in 2 to 3 other days after work. Like I stated earlier I am not sure if this is the proper place but I wanted you all to know a little about me since I have joined your forum.

Welcome
Yes, this is the right place.
Good for you for doing 30 mile rides. That is impressive after only 2 months.
Enjoy the forum and keep us posted.
Thank you for the welcomes and Spoke50, NC is a great place to ride. We currently live in a very rural area in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, We can see them every morning when we look out. The roads out here are very nice and the traffic is minimal. The area where we live has a large population of Amish so there is a good amount of bike traffic and horse and buggy traffic. It is rolling hills and very scenic. With in an hours drive we have 5 notable mountain bike trails and 2 large MUP railroad trails. The Hospital that I work at has a cycling team that does a lot of organized charity rides, this is what got us interested in riding, they have a program of work place wellness initives that give points for bonuses and other prizes for fitness activities that you do. Like I said I lived and worked in Pittsburgh, Yes it is an attratice looking city but when we left there I told my wife I would never live anywhere near a large city again. I have not regretted the move yet. It was a little more difficult for her since she was born and raised in a city and it took her a little while to get used to a 20 mile trip to the grocery store.

I am no longer beating the street and eating donuts
So the other day I got pulled over, and this cop says, "Your eyes are watery, sir. Have you been drinking?" and I say, "Your eyes are glazed, officer. Have you been eating a donut?"
My favorite police officer joke.

Don't give up the donuts.
This is the reason most uf us ride. We have lost so much weight doing our birthday rides and Metrics that to be able to do the track racing and Time trials- We have to eat donuts to keep the energy levels up.
Although the wiser of us do graduate to PIE when the time comes.
Thank you for your responses, I will post pictures of the bikes ASAP. Will also tell you about our rides when we take some remarkable ones. Right now the biggest excitement is the ride we take on saturday mornings from the house to the Amish Bakery for a breakfast Pie and then decide what route will will take to complete our milage. Bad part is it is only 5 miles to the bakery.

Welcome Dave,
I grew up North of the "Burgh" and moved to Ohio after college. My wife and I both will be retiring next spring and intend to move back to Western PA within a few years. I hope you will always remain a "Stiller Fan":D

Do love the STILLERS, hate the city politics, and the politicians Did not forget anything when I left so there is nothing back there for me to return for. But Love the PENGUINS, watch them all the time.

Welcome aboard Junior. At barely 50 you're the kid around here. And the kids have to go and get clean forks so we don't pass pie filling from one plate to the next...... :D

The only valid question is: Do you still bleed black and gold or have you gone over to the dark side of powder blue and black? A Pittsburgh native will understand.
Dave welcome to the forum. Lp
