The Siouxland Trails Foundation or STF was formed as an non-profit organization with Articles of Incorporation & By-Laws in November of 2003. Our purpose & objectives are to improve the recreation trail system & bike route system in the greater Siouxland area.
This area is made up of Sioux City, Iowa, South Sioux City, Nebraska & North Sioux City, South Dakota. Our goal is to raise money & work in partnership with the 3 area's governments to obtain these objectives.
So far we have about $4,000 in monetary donations from various companies & banks. We have the promise of a $10,000 match from a major construction company in Sioux City once we reach our first 10 grand.
The Tri-State Trails Tour bike ride has monetary sponsorships of about $1,450 not including the dollar amount added for all the In-Kind sponsors. That total will reach somewhere around $16,000 when its all said and done, maybe more.
Because of all the generous sponsors for the bike ride we expect to clear $5,000 for the foundation.
When the time comes we will then meet with the Parks & Rec. officials from all 3 city's, ask them what bike route & trail projects are being planned and then decide who receives what money, etc.
This will all be up to the elected board. I sit on the Advisory Team & I'm the Chariman for the Event Sub-Committee who is responsible for organizing the ride.
The Siouxland Trails Foundation Advisory Team is made up of a lot of people. A few are business leaders/owners in this area. We have a CFO, and accountant, an attorney, a minister a couple of draftsmen, a gas company guy, plus various members of the city govt's.
The board was elected from those individuals & we have the smaller sub-committee's, one is the financial committee, and then the one I chair.
We are working in partnership with the 3 city governments, Sioux City, Ia, South Sioux City, Ne., North Sioux City, SD, & one state parks dept. South Dakota.
As far as we know never before has a partnership quite like this taken place. Sure there have been volunteer citizen groups working with city officials, but not on a scale such as this. It is typically only one city govt., not 3 at the same time.
