General Cycling Discussion - any advise for roof rails carrying two bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I like to take my bike with me on the roof of my Focus II wagon; checked Ford's site, however can not find a clear picture how a bike should be attached to carrier bars/rails. Anyone has a picture and advise? Went also to the dealer to show me, but they only had the bars available that would attach to the car's rail - and not a bike support which needed to be ordered separately - May be someone has a clear picture available how things wil fit. Thanx for any input.

It should be something similar to my car.
Mine is Thule cross bars and bike carrier attached to the Audi rails.
Like state above, you should be able to find something from either Thule or Yakima to fit your rails.

I had a similar setup on a different car once.
I forgot my bike was on top of the car when i came home and opened the garage door.
Yup. Pulled right in until i heard "CRUNCH!"
My steel bike frame was cracked in half, carbon fork shattered. And the bike carrier was bent. The cross rails and car were fine. The bike held on tight, that's for sure.
Now when i leave the house with bikes on top i put a huge orange traffic cone in my garage so i see it when the garage door opens.

Ouch, that must have been a bad experience... I don't have a garage though, and no roof rack yet ;-0
