I am building a wheelset with Shimano XT hubs and Mavic 517 rims. Does anyone know what length spokes I need to lace the front radial and the rear radial non drive and three cross drive.

try googling "spoke calculator". Or, actually, here: google spoke calculator (http://www.google.com/search?q=spoke+calculator&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8). The results oughtta be some online ones and some downloadable software ones. At least some of them should tell you what measurements you need and how to measure them. Once you've measured, you can just plug numbers in and get your answer.
Some spoke calculators out there have hub/rim databases, so if yours are in there you might not have to do any measuring.
Have fun..
