Electric Bikes - BL36 battery connect problem

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just got a new LiFePO4 36V 15AH battery to replace the lead acid one that came with my Wilderness BL36 Hub Motor; however, it didn't come with a two-wire connector to the controller. The wires are just bare. Where do I get a connector compatible with one that goes to the controller?

The yellow pages and a lot of calling. If you live in a bigger city it could be easier...
Take a picture of the connector and bring it to your local electronics/connectors/electrical store.

Here is what you need:

you have the same kit as mine the conector to the sla's is a trailer connector and you can buy them at most auto parts store ie autozone etc.

All the auto parts stores and hardware stores in my town only carry normal trailer connectors with 14 or 16 gauge wire. If you try to run the 25 to 30 amps that a BL-36 draws through wire that small, your going to have some voltage drop at best. At worst, you might melt the insulation and cause a short. You need 10 or 12 gauge for an e-bike.
I did use a small gauge trailer connector from the hardware store once in a pinch. I cut the small gauge wires off right at the connector and soldered the connector on to some 10 gauge wire. I didn't have an amp meter at that time to determine if it was limiting the current, but I did not notice the connector getting hot. I used it for a couple of weeks until I could get a proper heavy duty connector from electric scooter parts. I didn't trust it for long term use.
BEWARE - I have two WE kits and the colors of the wires on both the motor controllers is reverwed. Red is negative on the connector attached to the motor controller. Red is positive on the connector attached to the batteries. If you hook it up backwards, you'll fry the controller.

Try contacting either of these vendors:
www.itselectric.ca, or www.ebikes.ca.
It might be a case of waiting for shipping, but I am sure they can help.
Also check out the cross Canada trip that Justin made on an ebike at
the link on the main page of ebikes.ca
Good luck!!
i can only speak from my own expereince i have the same connector from autozone on mine with 3 12v 12amp sla and almost 4000 miles on the wiring with no melt downs or problems what can i say lol
