Northern California - Anybody here tried cyclocross? Anyone doing the Livermore series this year?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Looks like it would cost $30 per race (including a one-day license). Beginners ride for 30 minutes. There are some videos on youtube that show what the course is basically like.
I know nothing about cyclocross, but I have an old MTB and I'm thinking of giving it a try!
Is there a resident NorCal 'cross expert?

I race the Livermore cross series. It is great fun and fast course and it is well suited for beginners. This year they have been using a different course without the grandstand run up and I like it alot. The only technical bits are the log leaps and the woodchip. If you race in the C's your race will be 40 minutes. Mountain bikes are OK but no Bar ends.
I raced the first two rounds this year but wont be able to race again till November.

Thanks 'butter! Btw, how do you read the results (http://liveplayride.googlepages.com/CYCLCROSS08.pdf). It looks like a high number is better? But the number doesn't seem to correspond to the total points on the right. Is it the number of laps completed?

No forward facing bars I think. The points system is a bit strange. I think its 50 for a win.
I think I figured out the scoring system. You get points for each race (1st=50, 2nd=35, 3rd=25, etc.) that are added together to figure out your cumulative standing. So you might be getting like 7 points per race, but if you make it to all the races, you can still do OK because there are others who may be faster but have only done 1-2 races.

CX is fun, painful but fun. You'll be hooked and then you'll want a CX bike (not that that's bad ;) ).
