Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello... I'm getting back to mountain biking, but don't have $$$ for a new entry level bike. Planning to do recreational riding w/c will include single technical tracks, fireroads, and maybe Downieville next spring....
Is this bike ok, and is it worth $550.00. Please help me out...

I wouldn't pay $550 for that.

I'd stay away just 'cause of the fork. See if you can find a newer hardtail, such as [rummages through SF Craigslist] these:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/bik/857681802.html - not bad, at least has disc tabs
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bik/864071962.html - better
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/bik/863941895.html - okay
I'm truly staggered by the amazing number of overpriced bikes in the Bay area.
That looks like a nice bike, but there is a very good chance that fork is shot. I've owned two SIDs and neither has been particularly robust. If you're going to make an offer factor in the cost of a new fork.
