I have some Shimano 600 brake levers that came with my '87 Trek 560EX
From the brochure photos, it appears that they are aero levers. I'm running new cables etc (bike was formerly a fixie) and it appears that I might be missing a piece that goes inside the lever housing that acts as a stop for the cable housing..... Or, does the bar tape keep the cable housing from moving...seems like I'm missing something.

Do know about those Shimano 600 levers, but on several sets of Dia Compe aero levers I have, an aluminum hemispherical button ferrule goes over the end of the brake cable housing and sits in the lever body, against that hole.

These may work as well in your set of levers.

I had an older Trek 1500 with these brake levers and I concur that there was a small 1/2 round metal ferrule that fit over the end of the cable outer core on the inside.
