It turns out my wife has never been in Seaside Heights, having lived in NJ since 1999. Sooooo... I'm gonna take the train to the shore and meet her in Seaside. I'm thinking I'll do at least part of this route on Sunday. I can get off the train when I feel like it and then bike the rest of the way.

How many shore rats do we have here? Has anyone ridden on Rt 35 along the shore? Most of it's a straight shot, but I'm concerned with Rt 71 in Ocean Grove and also the Manasquan to Point Pleasant crossing; both have shoulders, but look a little too much like highways for my taste.

BTW, the "birds-eye" view on Ask.com is filled with awesome. It ain't Google Earth, but the closeup pics are awesomely sharp in comparison. Just sayin'...

Live Search Maps (http://maps.live.com/) gives you some good bird's eye views too.

The bridge in left picture (from manasquan into point pleasant) has a sidewalk on both sides if you are hesitant to ride in the lane. It is not a very long bridge and I have seen people doing both; I rode up on the sidewalk crossing it this past summer . Unfortunately there is not a dip in the curb to just roll up so you either have to unclip or try to hop it.

The traffic this time of year will also be greatly reduced compared to the summer/beach season.

Unfortunately, the bridge has a sign requiring cyclists to walk across the bridge. :(
