I have a 2001 Subaru Outback wagon with a Yakima rack system that is attached to the factory roof rack (Lowriders?). I want to put a fairing on it because I get wind howl noise from the rack when driving.

I just got a Yakima fairing at my local REI store. Yakima recommended a 44" fairing, so that's what I got.

I took it out of the box and held it up to my rack to see what it looked like. It extends past the factory rack on both sides, leaving a gap between the fairing and the roof. I was wondering if a shorter fairing that fits between the factory rack rails would make more sense.

Any advice or experience out there?

Maybe he is carrying bikes on his rack!

The fairings are available in a variety of widths (32", 38", 44", 50" ). I definitely think you should go to a smaller size. I read on another forum where the 32" is the recommended size for an outback.
