Triathlon - From couch potato to olympic distance

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Tomorrow's the big day. I'll be a triathlete in less than 24 hours, barring something unexpected, which never really happens in this sport.

This forum was very helpful. Many thanks. If there's any last minute advice, especially in regard to preparation details, please let me know. What do most rookies forget to bring? Crap, I have a feeling I'm going to get very little sleep tonight.

I'll let you know how it goes!

You don't need a lot of sleep the night before the race, so don't worry (it won't help you sleep any better). Race morning dos:'

1. Do make sure you take some calories about 2 hours before you plan to start (I drink two Boosts)
2. Do use the porta potty
3. Do make sure you have your goggles and swim cap (last race I almost checked them in with my tri bag)
4. Do take a deep breath and remember that we pay lots of money to do this, so have fun. Enjoy the day.

PS Report back.

I survived! Very comfortable on the swim. Very comfortable on the bike. Very unpleasant run, but finished without stopping. The only caveat was a dash to the finish with a fellow racer which excited the crowd.
