Mountain Biking - New bike, tear in sidewall already

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
So I have a new bike (yeah!) and I really love it, but today I was cleaning it after my ride and noticed I have a tear in the sidewall of the Kenda Nevegal tires. I have ridden it maybe six times on a trail now.
I have a short dirt crit tomorrow and I think they'll survive that, but I was curious: do I boot the tire and just keep using it or am I just stuck getting a new tire? Should I be chatting with the LBS to see if I get a new tire because the bike is new?
That said, I probably will get a new tire because I have a 6 hour race next weekend. I don't want to tempt things.
Thanks!

Hmm, a picture would certainly be helpful in these situations, well you could chat with your LBS considering you only use your bike just six times (how long you owned it? 2 weeks?).
Im surprised though that you managed to tear your sidewall in 6 rides, what terrain were you riding? rocky?

If you're racing I wouldn't tempt fate. Just bite the bullet and replace.
I've had it about three weeks. The trails that I have been riding wouldn't particularly be consider rocky (there are rocks, but rarely any rock gardens or the like). And my "racing" isn't particularly fast :) Also, this isn't the first tire that this has happened to reasonably quick.
Attached some pics. I'm going to go hunt around at a couple shops, see if they have anything reasonably priced.
