What part of boston are you from? Do you miss the psuedo intellectualism as much as I do??
Do you remember Kappy's or Candlepins for Cash??

BTTT. I just bought a Honda Civic, suddenly making this a possibly feasible/affordable day trip.

Grew up in Brookline, Hyde Park (not to be confused with the Hyde Park in Austin), Natick and Newton...I do indeed recall Kappy's Liquors and Candlepins for Cash -- sidebar, Wikipedia says that Bob Gamere was the host, but, I recall Don Gillis as being the host...(Kennedy face on) let me say this about the pseudo intellectualism: I uh, used to, uh, like, my, uh, chowda and beeah down at Durgin Park, or, uh, over in JP at, uh, Doyle's when the uh regulah fold went there :thumb:

And your story?? Are you an accountant :)

I think Don Gillis replaced Bob Gamere after WBZ got tired of him showing up 'faced to tapings.

I am just another expatriate like yourself. The old hood was under the big green Tobin bridge. Yes beancounter, former pwc, yadda, yadda.

Are you going to make it up for the big show? :thumb:

Alas, I don't think I'll be able to make it :( I liked what I read about True Fabrication; again, thanks for the link!! Nick Crumpton is usually in the group that I ride with on Sundays; I'll wish him well...if you are in Austin, roll out is Sunday morning from Freewheeling at 8:15am...organized by the Violet Crown.

Townie or Malden/Chelsea? pwc, I feel for ya, although, I do like pwc perks...sometimes they have sweet deals on there!!!! (My brother was, I believe the expression might be "imprisoned", with them at one point).

The doc and my Wife have informed me I will NOT be racing in my National Vintage Enduro motorcycle race next weekend.

If I decide to not go, and wallow in how well I could have done, I will be there.

My daughter and I ran by and it was cool. Of course, Dave Cheakas and I chatted for the better part of our time there :). It was groovy to see some of the bikes being built around here.

This was also my first visit to the Superdrome. What a great facility! (never having been to a velodrome before, I don't have anything to compare it to).

Went up and saw David of course and some of the other builders. Most of the bikes I had seen in Portland back in Feburary, but still nice to see some of the local builders out. Also was there to help support some of my club's riders who was racing at the velodrome this afternoon. Certainly helped that the two were at the same place at the same time.

I made it up there Saturday and have posted pictures on my blog: http://austinbikeblog.org/2008/11/02/pictures-from-the-texas-custom-framebuilders-show/

I'm writing a story on the state of hand built bikes in Texas that will be out later this week. Enjoy!

yah, I was there about 10:30 on saturday, spent time talking to David (of course) and the guys in
the corner who were working with Doug Fattic on the Ukraine bike project. Very cool stuff.
Would have liked to see this in a larger venue with some input from other types of vendors
( like LBSs, component manufactures etc. maybe make in a mini NAHBS).

I think the show went pretty well for a first time event. We estimated 200 folks stopped by to check out the bikes. Everyone enjoyed the track racing going on below as well. Plans are to have it in Austin next year.

Thanks for the pics. Some nice stuff going down!!! I'm pretty sure that the Crumpton belongs to a friend of mine; if it is my friends, Nick used it for the Bicycling Magazine test ride too and I suspect that he likes taking it to shows because it is built up/completed.

dave99ag

That's quite possible. I think friends of the builders are used to them stealing their bikes for shows.

Yup, David had a couple bikes at NAHBS this year that were customer's bikes. He was expecting a couple for this show, but they didn't materialize (guessing weather was too nice to pass up actually riding them!)

Fiduciary responsibility prevents me from confirming or denying your assumptions.

However, I can post MORE PICS from the show:
