General Cycling Discussion - Offline indefinitely as of Monday

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings all.

As many of you will be aware, I am presently looking for a new place to live for when my living arrangements change, having finished university. Yesterday it became apparent that all of this will be happening sooner than I anticipated. As a result, Monday morning (Australian time about 48 hrs from now) will be my last session on bikeforums indefinitely. After this, the only way to contact me will be via e-mail (and I don't know how often I will be able to check that).

I'm posting this now just in case there is anybody out there who doesn't already know my opinions on off-road bike paths, motoring primates, "waterproof" panniers, summer etc.

Chris,

I (and I think most BF members) will really miss your colorful opinions and comments.
No one can ever say that you aren't honest and forthright. :D

I hope you will be able to get settled soon and rejoin your online family.

In the meantime take care of yourself and keep riding.

Ron

You know, of course, that Pete and fubar will post twice as much so you will never be able to catch up.

I hope indefinitely, doesn't mean forever. You'll be missed.

The keyword here is, "indefinitely." I am not going to panic.

I would panic if Chris said he was going to lay off the hills for a while. Then I would want to examine Chris's head. Now that would be very interesting, indeed! I wonder what we would find in there?

Probably just a few insanely steep mountain hills, swooping magpies, and partially-dressed females populating the beachfront.

Hey, come back, Chris!

Come on Chris - who are you kidding? Of course you will have a phone in your new pad. All it takes is a phone and an ISP and you will be back online pronto. Hey, you can even go to the library for internet access, and I bet the accounting firm where you work has internet access, also. Just don't get fired for being online too much!!

Chris,
In the States, if a student athlete at a university is graduating, but still has one year of eligibility for their sport, they usually go directly to graduate school at the same university to complete their final year of eligibility. You only have 2100 posts at BikeForums. I'd bet you've got at least a few hundred posts left in you.

Maybe it is too soon for you to grow up and face the world of work. Stay in the university! I graduated from university in 1995, and since then I have regretted my decision to graduate. I'm sure I could have flunked a few classes if I had really tried.

We all will miss your presence and your posts. I hope you find a way to get back to the forum in the immediate future.

Good advice. Stay in school forever. Get your graduate degree, then your doctorate - maybe two doctorates.

Then, get a job in the university system (you won't be as employable in the real world with a doctorate and no work experience anyway).

Eventually, become a professor and retire young with hair on your head and fond memories inside your head.

Chris. Renew your public library card. Is it not free in Australia.? I keep in touch with friends from back east all the time w/o PC's through the public library. Here they give you a minimum of one hour a day. Can do more than a fair quota of posts in one hour. Just requires an email account as you know. All BF Members hope to hear from you soon.

Really sorry to see you go so soon. You'll be sorely missed around here. Hurry up and get yourself a computer and get back here.

By the way you probably know that the difference between Australia and a yoghourt is that the latter has some culture.

LOL

Hope to see you again very soon

Hmmm... Here is an approach that had simply not occurred to me. Maybe I'll be back sooner than I'd expected. I'll check that one out on Monday (as well as that unit at the top of that hill in Coolangatta :D )

Chris. You have lots of experience to contribute to this site. Great to hear there is a solution, until you have access to your own PC. Besides, libraries are places we all could spend additional time.
Once we have to leave academia, they help keep us connected to the world of knowledge. After the bike lanes, they are one of my favorite places. Just please keep me away from the telle, unless there is a good movie without commercials. The television can kill your mind and your physical well being. (Couch potato)And my library has a great section on cycling.

Chris,

To give this post relevance you must leave come Monday. Otherwise, Joe is going to have to revoke your user priviliges. We will all see to it.

It is a shame you must go as I have not fully grasped your stance on rednecks, bike paths, small penis syndrome, vegimite, dinner rolls, hills, headwinds, magpies, new helmets, crashes, scenic overlooks, television, religon, panniers, college computers and many, many more.

I want to be the first to come out in the open and say that I think it is great and applaude you for getting over your fear of biking around Aus in womens underware. We may not have come out and said it, but Chris, we like you the way you are.

You will be sorely missed my good friend, carry on...............

I say we make Buddy Hayden our new "Best Austrailian Friend" now!

I think you need to include a quick cycle to the library at least once a day, even if it means missing your lunch break :)

Take care

I hope "indefinitely" only turns out to mean one or two days.

Meanwhile, Buddy will just have to post five or six times as much, so we keep the Orstrarlian perspective on things coming at us.

I hope your new living quarters will be good ones, Chris--far away from brush fires and preferably equipped with a T1 line!

It appears I have won a temporary reprieve. Someone I know has to move to Brisbane in a hurry, and was going to put all their stuff in storage. I suggested that it would be cheaper to leave it with me and help me out with the rent on this place for a couple of weeks. Then I had to convince the agent on this place to let me delay my departure for two weeks (hopefully by then, all the tourists will be gone, so rental units at Coolangatta will be more plentiful and less costly).

The net result of this is that, against all odds, I am back. For a while...

Well, I'm gonna need some time to figure this one out, but until then, welcome back.

I knew you'd be back so welcoming you back is merely a formality.

alright people, seeing that you are all getting so overexcited about this guy, i think i should point out that as of later today, my alter-ego will really be going offline properly, unless he can find free public internet access somewhere, something i have little faith in him managing to do.

in any case, it's of no consequence because you already know his opinions on most things anyway, so there's no point getting excited. he's off to get his new cable now, no doubt the most exciting thing he'll do all day i shouldn't wonder.

I think your addiction to this forum will prevail. I don't believe you will stay off the gear for long. Anyway, why should finishing University bring you back to the dark ages. Surely you will find an employer understanding of your internet and cycling habits.

Best of luck,

PB
