hey guys, i've been lurking for a few weeks trying to read as much as possible. i'm looking for a bike that i can commute on, do some road training on, and also some light trail riding once in a while. i figured that a cyclocross bike would be perfect for this. here is my question, i'm considering 3 different options at this point...

04 redline conquest disc R brand new

02 or 03 cannondale xr 800 - 105 shifters, 9 speed, 600 rear der., Mavic Speed City wheels

01 diamondback podium - disc brakes with the hand levers. Front is Schimano 105; rear derail is Ultegra and the hubs are XT. And the rims -- Salsa Del Gados -- Stem and seatpost both Salsa as well.

if i could get them all for about the same price...which would be the best value?

thanks!

tyler

btw, i'm about 6'1" 210 lbs.

cannondale (god, they should pay me for this really). best ride, sounds like it has good components, and is a wonderful frame. stiff, yes, but i and many others commute daily on cannondales with no issues at all.

if all things were equal, and value was the only factor, i'd vote for the redline. you said it's brand new, and disc brakes are pretty nice to have.

yea, they've all got disc's. i actually can't find the specs for the redline, so i'm not sure what wheels it comes with or anything. anyone else have any opinions?!

This is more a question of flavors than better or worse. Those all seem perfectly good bikes - assuming nothing worn or falling off the used ones. That's something you'll have to check.

Actually, if you are at all unsure about your mechanical skills and ability to evaluate whether the used bikes are in excellent shape, then that would be an argument for the NOS Redline. Otherwise get the one that feels best under you. Or if that's a wash get the color you like best. I'm a bit of a Redline fan, so I'd say get that.
