Hi Folks...

The Seattle International Bike Expo was held this past weekend and thought I'd post some photos.

The first is a Davidson street fixie with upturned track ends. Davidson is a local builder.

OK, This isn't a singlespeed or fixie but Glen Erickson (also local to Seattle) does really pretty work. This is his Calvin and Hobbs bike.

This is a close up of some of his lug work:

Here's the new Gaansari single. The frames are made for them by Co-Mothion. These folks were really nice.

I wouldn't want to ride this one on Seattle hills. It was on display at the Marymoor Velodrome booth:

Here's my favorite....Hey that's my bike! R&E asked to borrow it for the show so I spent 4 days polishing and cleaning every little piece:

Jim,

Tell me about YOUR bike.

Hi William...

The bike was a custom job from R&E (Rodriguez) cycles here in town. It's made with Tru-Temper OX Platinum tubing. It is and will always be a singlespeed as there is no derailleur hanger or shifter mounts etc. It has road geometery with a very slack seat tube to accommodate my high center of gravity.

Trackends: Paul Components with integrated tensioners.
Wheels: Velocity Deep-Vee 36 hole
Hubs: Phil Wood
Freewheel: White Industries
Seat: Selle Italia SLR
Bars: Profile Designs Stoker
Stem: Profile Designs
Levers: Tektro
Pedals: 1970's Campy Super Leggere track
Clips: Christophe
Brakes/BB/Cranks: Campy Veloce

Sometimes I'm grateful for carzy drivers because this thing is so comfortable I'd be tempted to nap on it ;-)

I think that's about it.

Love those Ericksons, do they have a website? Maybe I'll call by their shop next time I'm in town. Better start saving then :)

Hi Johnny B...

Well funny you should ask. I was abit surprised to see Erickson Frames at the Expo as he seems to be into leading bicycle tours these days. See:

http://www.ericksoncycles.com/index.htm

I'm told that it is still possible to get a custom frame made by him but it could take a very long time and alot of begging. It would be nice if his appearance at the Expo marked a return to his framebuilding efforts as he is truly gifted.

The place that made my bike is called R&E named for Angel Rodriguez and Glen Erickson but Erickson left to do his own thing shortly after Rodriguez retired to Mexico (his country of origin).

Good luck and if you ever do make it out this way let me know, we are lucky to have many very cool LBS's and custom framebuilders here.

nice. it's a skip-tooth disc. still, it's got the intimidation factor going on... how many teeth?

If I remember correctly, it's equivalent to 80 teeth ...give or take a tooth....yike.

beauty, nice pics Jim

For what its worth, Cycles Gaansari is easily my favorite lbs and to say "These folks were really nice" is probably the understatement of the decade ;) Gary's a pretty amiacable guy all around and will bend your ear for hours about bikes and bike-related stuff.

Thanks for the kind words. You're right about the Gaansari folks. It was obvious that we could have chatted for hours and not even notice the time fly away. I was really tempted by the Scorcher and at $750.00 for frame/fork/headset, I think it's a good deal. But alas, the top tube is just too short for me. Otherwise, with that slack geometry and 'pretty long' chainstays, I think the Scorcher would be a good candidate for a cool cross country singlespeed adventure 8-)
