Road Cycling - Thoughts on Spinergy Wheelsets

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was hoping to get some thoughts on Spinergy wheel sets. I picked up a used Cannondale to use as a winter trainer, and the wheels are Spinergy - rear is Spox, and the fronr is Xaero. Both have issues, and I am looking to replace them.
I saw some reviews on the web that were horrible for Spinergy. Has anyone else had trouble with them - particulalry bearing trouble?
If you don't recommend Spinergy, what wheelsets do you like?
Thanks!!

Spinergy's customer relations have been absolutely horrible! If your problems are merely with the bearings, they are easy to get and generally easy to replace. Your LBS most likely can help you with that task. If your problem is with the Spinergy spec'd/produced parts, you might have an uphill battle.
I am not a great fan of boutique wheelsets. IMO they don't give you a lot back for the large amount of money that you spend. I know I'll sound like an old fart when I say Mavic Open Pro 32 hole rims, laced 3x with double butted spokes on your favorite Shimano or Campy hubs will last seemingly forever (if properly built) and are easy to true and repair when the time comes.

I have heard nothing but bad things about Spinergy. Mavic Open Pros on the other hand I have heard nothing bad about. I own a set myself and as far as I'm concerned they are bombproof.
Please people stop calling mass-produced wheels "boutique" wheels!
If anything Open Pros laced to preferred hubs are "boutique", think about it!

Newbie,
I just bought a spinergy xaero front wheel, I also came here and asked what was thought. Someone sent me a link to the reviews on spinergy, i was horrified when i started reading, "BUT" as i read on only three "#" people wrote something and of the three two were negative and unsatisfied, and one was unhappy but satisfied.
So, I would think that there was more than just three pairs of spinergy sold and i only read of three incidents. The three guys that wrote negatively about spinergy could probably afford wheel sets that cost more than my bike.
I have not yet had a chance to ride with my spinergy, but it does look nice and the bearings feel just as smooth as my Mavic ceramic open pros.
Good luck and ride safe

Broken spokes in both front and rear. LBS rebuilt both wheels with double butted spokes to take care of that problem. Started to get a loud creak from the rear wheel, replaced the QR. They came with the bike so I only use them for training. Would never purchase another Spinergy.

I have a pair of spinergy xaero's. Great wheels. No problems. Light and aero. Ummm they look nice too. What else is there... oh, the pbo spokes absorb alot of road vibration. Always a plus with an aluminum frame. Stronger spokes....lower spoke count. Not good if you are heavy but there are no worries if you're moderately built. And there you are, a positive review of Spinergy.
I think some people had a little too much haterade this morning. :P
