Texas - Anyone interested in an Austin/Central TX meetup?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm thinking about setting up an Austin BF meet up.
Is there any interest?
Preferences for time? Weekend Afternoon? Evening Cruise? Give me your ideas!

I'm open to suggestions.
Also, check with the ATXBS.com (http://atxbs.com/) for Austin bike culture events and socials.

I'm in probably, did my last race yesterday so its back to base miles for a few weeks. Saturdays are good.
Also, if anyone wants to ride up north we're still doing the rides out of Buck's Bikes on 183 Tues/Thurs at 6pm. These can be hard rides though. There's an easier one usually on Mon's, at 6, but its more 'unofficial'. Check out the board on AustinRoadriders.com .

If this is a bikeforums meet and greet sort of deal, picking our own spot and setting a not-quite-so-fast pace might be a better idea than crashing an established hammerfest group ride. Not everyone on here is a hardcore road nazi.
I'm interested, though. Weekend afternoon sounds best, to me.

I think he was just throwing out the info, not necessarily suggesting those rides as the meet & greet. :) Anyway, I'm up for it. Late afternoons on weekends work for me.
Aaron, have you done anymore of the Thursday hill rides from BSS? I've been wanting to join the ride again...
$5 to anyone who can get/post a recording of AprilM saying "howdy" or "ya'll"
Why don't you come down and get it yourself?

Yep - just throwing it out there in case any bf'ers might want to join in. If so let me know you're coming and I'll look for you. :)

I went the week after, but then my parking permit expired and the logistics of it became unmanageable/I became lazy. I'd be down for doing it again, though. Those guys seemed pretty cool.
@Ravenmore: Is the Monday at 6 ride happening today/are you going on it?

Yes it it is happening. I'll probably ride it if I can get over there in time. I get out of work at 5:30 so its pushing it a little.

The Monday ride is on for today, and I'm pretty sure I'm going--you should definitely come with :) They usually roll out at 6:15 or so to catch any stragglers.

We'll see. I really need to head home and change first, which will make getting over there by 6 a bit of a stretch.
Edit: Clearly, it is not my day. :( I'll plan ahead for next week, though.

Next week then! :)
So, are we still doing a meet & greet? How many Austin BF'ers are there, anyway?

How about next Saturday afternoon (the 18th) maybe meet up downtown (steps of the capitol? UT campus?), ride a few easy miles around downtown and then over to somewhere like Shady Grove for beer and burgers? Shady Grove ought to be pretty amicable to riding up on bicycles, I would think, since they've got that big patio.

I like it. The Capitol is probably better than campus. Mizzou is in town that Saturday and campus will be a debacle.

If that Saturday is a game day, maybe doing this on Sunday instead is a better option. I haven't been downtown on a game day since I've lived here, but College Station is like the least pleasant place in the universe on football game days.

Would anyone be interested in doing the Sunday (October 12) morning ride out of Bicycle Sport Shop with the Austin Flyers (or the ride with the Violet Crown, whom I typically ride with, that departs from Freewheeling on Sunday -- although, it tends to go for about 60+ miles)? Typically folks of varied ability show up for the Austin Flyers Sunday ride. It tends to roll out easy, and there tends to be some hammering down Old San Antonio road, where folks wait up for others. But, Monday at Bikes Bikes looks good too. Also, I like the idea of a stroll in the afternoon and then a get together at Shady Grove or somewhere like that...could do this too on Sunday (I'm riding Sunday morning in any event).

It's really not too bad on game days as long as you're not right on Campus. It's a much bigger town than College Station is. Downtown and Town Lake should be fine. (plus I play soccer on Sunday nights and try not to any real riding or beer drinking on Sunday afternoons, ;) though I would still come out for an easy ride and a burger if more people are into Sunday)

Normally I would be, but Sunday morning is my solo ride, and I always look forward to those. :D

That sounds great to me. :D

I won't be available for the 18th, but, the Tour de Fat (http://www.tour-de-fat.com/city/austin)(as in Fat Tire beer) will be going on :)

The Outlaw Trail 100 is also happening in Round Rock on the 18th. I'm riding in that one. Maybe the following Sunday?

So, how about Sunday the 19th, at 2:30 in front of the capitol building?
