Triathlon - Cervelo P3C or Orbea Ordu

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am about to upgrade in a major way. I am riding a 10 or so year old Lemond roadie that I bought used 3-4 years ago. I have been using this bike for my races since my first last year. It is not the right size so I am movin' on up as the song goes to one that does. I have narrowed it down to these two but need some help choosing. I like the looks of the P3 the best (don't know why) but my lbs owner is really talkin' up the Ordu. I guess what I need from you guys (and gals) is some guidance, especially if you have riden both of these. Thanks in advance.

Get professional fit by a fitter who specializes in triathlon before you choose. These are both great bikes but they have very different geometries. One is really going to work for you and the other isn't. You aren't going to know until you get fitted.

Do you prefer riding more slack (Ordu) or steep (Cervelo)? They are both great but are very different.
I chose the Ordu (2007) mainly because I couldn't maintain the steep and aero position of the P3C comfortably. I could add a bunch of spacers on the P3C but then it negates its aero advantage. I also liked the Ordu's look and color more.

Both are very nice bikes. If you go and buy it new, ask the fitter what would be a better fit. You might be able to find a P3C pretty easy and at a good price in the next few months since the P4 has been released.
the LBS is talking up the ordu because they have them to sell. they fit differently. try them both out. or call a shop that carries the p3 and give them your measurements.
As is my typical response to this question, if you're going to blow all that money do you want to pay for wind tunnel developed or wind tunnel tested? I'd go for the first. After Orbea found out how slow heir bike was aerodynamically they went back and tweaked things a little but it still isn't quite up to snuff in my opinion. As others have said they also fit very differently.
Bikes I'd consider:
Cervelos carbon models
Trek Equinox's
Felt carbon models
Specialized's bikes
Jamis
Cannondale Slice
maybe a few others.
Best of luck with decision. I went with a Felt myself.

I ordered the P3C last week. I got the 2008 (red, black, silver) for 15% off. Cervelo was doing that to get rid of their 2008s I guess. I liked that look better than the new '09 paint sceme anyway. I'll post I pic of the new ride when I get her. Not that you all don't know what one looks like.....I'll just be so excited to have a much faster (and better looking) bike!
Congrats, I look forward to seeing pics
