Foo - Sandwiches are evil

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

They take all of the subtle, wonderful flavors that the ingredients have individually, and put them into one big flavor mess that tastes mostly like bread and whatever the strongest ingredient is.
Who invented this crap? I can't even taste the cheese, or meat, or tomato usually. I just taste bread, and whatever sauce is on it. What a waste of cheese and meat. Why bother?
Also, people who work at sub shops and don't care are also evil. I hate them. They can single handedly ruin your dining experience.
Example: I just went to the Lil' Dinos on campus. It's a sub shop. A cheap one. I got an 8" Spicy Italian on wheat. I asked for olives, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, and oil and vinegar. The guy working there (Indian graduate student) gave me a total of one tomato, 3 slivers of banana pepper, enough olive pieces to MAYBE make one whole olive, and then didn't shake the oil/vinegar bottle. So basically I just got oil. And then he didn't cut it all the way. He got through the top layer of bread and just stopped. I had to tear the meat and the other piece of bread myself.
It's not my fault you're a graduate student who has to work in a sub shop; make my damn sandwich like you give a damn, my dinner is at stake.
edit: Jersey Mike's is the exception to the sandwiches are evil rule. Because Jersey Mike's is awesome and makes really good subs that actually taste like they have ingredients. Plus they know how to put toppings on.

Don't you guys have a Quiznos?
I was refused service at the Subway at the corner of 213 and 209 in New York on Saturday because of my bike. So, be thankful you at least GOT a sandwich...
I don't mind going to subway occasionally, but they are just too dang expensive.

I wouldn't let it ruin my meal or day. No biggy.

Yes. But not on campus. I would have to walk, and actually pay for it. I can get this stuff basically for free (meal plan, it's complicated).

It happens about 90% of the time I go there though. And I go there a lot because it's convenient between classes. I've noticed the black women make much better sandwiches than the Indian guys. Who knew?

I used to go to Hardee's when I first moved to Georgia in 2001. They got my burger wrong 3 times in a row. 'Never went back. Move on. It's only a thing.

If the guy did not shake the dressing bottle, you have the right to ask him to do it again or make you a new sandwich.
Do you smile and talk nicer to the women? As a former fast food worker (some 30 years ago), my policy was that surly customers got crappy food. Never tell a fast food worker they damn well better give you extra sauce this time.

Nah, I'm always nice. I thank them and such. I don't make a fuss about things, like I'd never ask him to do it again. But it does get old sometimes.

sandwiches are delicious, you must be doing it wrong. the proportions between bread, meat, accessories, and lubricant (mayo, mustard, oil) needs to be correct. places like subway and potbellies will often put too much lettuce on (because its cheap) and skimp on the meat and tomatoes (potbellies tomatoes are basically 3 paper-thin slices). God forbid they put more than 1/2 a slice of cheese on there too.

I think you need to have a one on one talk with the dude next time you are in line and you got no one behind.
We really dont make sandwiches in India. srsly. <Indian ex-grad student>

Shouldn't that be the manager's job? I can't help it he isn't from Jersey and wasn't born making subs.
I wish we didn't make sandwiches here. I like Indian food much better. Especially that spongy bread stuff with the mashed up spicy chick pea stuff. (I don't remember the names)
That'd be cool if they had fast Indian food on campus (or anywhere). Unfortunately my options are Taco Bell, greasy deep fried things, or a sandwich. Meh.

The quality of sandwiches in a society is an indicator of the quality of the society, itself.
When I was a kid in law school, I was so poor that I had to steal sandwich fixings from my roommates. Fortunately, they understood and they made sure they always had extra for me. Never would've survived without them.

I would like to stand up for samiches.
I am a fan. I don't eat them often (maybe 1 or 2x a month)... but I think you're doing it wrong.
Today, I made a sandwich: toasted white bread, light on ranch spread (verrry light, I'm not a condiment person unless its ketchup) chicken off a rotisserie chicken, lettuce, and tomato straight from the garden. Mmmm tasty.

yes, botto. Some people have the quantitative ability to think for themselves and determine if what they get for the money is not worthwhile. Even if it's $5.
to the OP: You really sound like a dick, but I'm hoping it was part-satire.

wondering HOW you got two streets in New York to cross each other.
what I remember was, streets go east or west ( even go east, odd go west)
and the avenues are all North South..
Maybe you was on the island ( long ) ...
Yeah I know, most Brooklynites or Queens ( no pun intended) refuse to believe they are on Long Island
but part of the Greater New York City borough system.

I heart sammiches, although I'm not fond of Subway. Jersey Mike's, Quizno's, Penn Station, all great!
Well, since it's part of you campus "experience" -- guess what you have to do is be the person who watches every onion, piece of lettuce etc that goes on the sammie - and instruct them as they make it.
I used to run the front end of a pizza shop - and the sub area was mah kingdom. And there were some customers who would basically strain their neck in watching me in the progress of building their sammie - so much so (and you get to know them) - that after the placement of the whatever on the bread - ya kinda looked up at them and if they nodded - yer good, otherwise they'd say a few more or a few less.
