Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - stem mounted computer

Not many product descriptions mention how they're mounted. Could someone please recommend one that mounts to the stem?

The cheaper the better, all the cheap ones have all the functions I care about. Don't care about wired/wireless, only that it can be mounted on the stem.

Ten dollar Schwinn branded ones will mount on the stem.

Wired Cateye Strada is nice, but more expensive than the Schwinns

The Cateye Strata wired or wireless both mount on stem and are a very nice streamlined design that is easy to use. I had the wireless and had it stolen, I just ordered a wireless. Personally I wouldn't even consider any of the other computers. But everyone has their own needs so you might check out the specs.

Meant to say I ordered the wired version. I don't see any great advantage to the wireless.

The Sigma Sports computers can be stem mounted, so can specialized computers. Check the manufacturers websites. You can usually download user manuals and read the instructions to see if they can be stem mounted.

Some computers have a bar mount as standard and you have to purchase the stem mount as an option. My Cateye Astrale 8 is an example. This was not advertised so you had to look at the parts store or download the manual to find out about this option.

The Trek Incite 6i can be stem-mounted (which is where mine is), and it's their cheapest model too. It's included in the package, nothing extra required.

I presume (but do not know for certain) that the rest of their line probably has the same form-factor and mounting bracket.

If I had to do it over again, I'd probably go with the 8i instead and get the pace indicator.

All the Trek Incite line do have the same form factor and will stem mount on most stems. The pace indicator is really quite useless except for long rides.

I typically ride 18-20mph but from slowing/stopping during commuting, my computed average speed drops down to 13-14mph, so I'm almost always getting the "Better than Pace!" arrow on my 9i. For long distance riding it's a neat feature though

Yes. I own one.

There's a little $8.00 gizmo called the "knob" that allows you to mount any computer pretty much anywhere. Comes in a couple different sizes for different applications. Most tri heavy bike shops carry it.
