Weird Dreams: ala Beatrix Potter Style
Aesthetic Realism
“The difference between the imagination of art and the imagination of
everyday life is that where
in art imagination serves to show the self by showing the world, imagination in "life" is used to
make the self comfortable, without necessarily showing it”
Yep…I’ve hit all time weirdness…
I’ve had a lot of weird dreams lately. I don’t put a whole lot of belief into the “Mumbo Jumbo” meanings of dreams as portents of the future or signs and symbols from the beyond. I think the
brain has a magical way of working out frustration.
… a few days of not feeling very social and all this damn hostility and fighting over the
direction our country is taking has started to take its toll on my spirit. Also mid-life crisis issues job security, financial stability worries has me thinking in a lot of different directions…
What to do?
Of course! Ride my bike!
I’m trying not to lie anymore to protect my real self… (a habit we develop as children
as a form of ego preservation). I had planned on doing a pretty difficult ride with some very
good friends. I half heartedly tried to get it together to ride with them. Two of them called
me yesterday personally to ask if I was going to make it. Jeesh… such caring friends, what
the hell am I down in the dumps about? To tell you the truth, I really just felt like being alone
and didn’t feel like I could be good company, surely not what they deserved, so I didn’t
set the alarm and woke up ten minutes before I was supposed to leave. (I had planned
on taking the train and doing the route backwards till I met up with them…I have a stack
of google maps to prove it!) So much for my grand scheme…
As I drank my coffee…
I started reading the New York Times but felt nauseous about one paragraph into it.
So then I decided to ride myself out of this “mental abyss”.
I missed the Diablo challenge too… - 0- $$$ F-*-&-K !!!
-So now the dream…
I’m in a snow carriage.. There’s a very sad man locking me into my seat, He’s wearing
a monocle and says he’s the wizard of Oz. He laments about how Oz has disappeared and
has now become an amusement park!
I look all around and the place is beautiful. There are ski slopes that go meandering
down the mountainside…, but no snow??
I realize that I have a rabbit outfit on, but it feels real. The person next to me, I have
not the faintest idea of their gender or what they are…kind of like a beautiful witch but carrying themselves as if in the male gender…kind of masculine? They seem like they’ve been my friend
for a long time.
The sad wizard tells us how the Tin man left, then the Lion and finally the scarecrow.
He has nothing left. Without even thinking I blurt out “I’m Peter Rabbit and I’ll stay here with you!”
The witch man/woman bursts out laughing and say’s “I will too”. I look at my hands
and they’re paws and we all laugh…Then the dream just gets weird…Like it wasn’t already!
Out of my dream and back to my coffee…
I hear commotion outside and the telltale sound of a trucklift and guys shouting across
the street. With coffee in hand, I open the shades and almost spit my coffee! There’s a truck
across the street pointing down hill and parked. On the side of the truck which is painted in
yellow (the color of my TaxiBike) It says…
OZ moving.com…!!! WTF!

Three hours later…
I’m sitting at the summit of MT. Tam on a rock looking down past my yellow Taxi Bike at the meandering trails and fire roads that look so much like ski runs, but no snow?
I scaled Tam on my single speed. I felt really great all the way up.
I ran into a beautiful English woman named “Priscilla” who took my picture coming up the
“Hobbit” like landscape of Throckmorten and Molimo streets through Mill Valley. You know
I kind of felt like “Peter Rabbit” I kept meeting all these story book characters. John and
Alice were sunning at the summit and engaged me about my Taxi bike…John was a member
of the Specialized Team, but they were only hiking. We shared some stories and remarks
about how great the “Specialized” bikes are.
I met three guys around my age on mountain bikes…More war stories…
The Lion, Tin man, the Scarecrow... Everyone I met I felt comfortable with and as
if my dream extended itself into my reality.
http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa292/taxi777/Hobbit.jpg
I flew like a falcon down the front of Tam. It was the first time I was able to really open up the Taxi Bike for an extended amount of time and distance…I’ve never experienced being
so attached and one with the machine as I did on my descent today…Close…but this
was different… I have not the faintest idea of my bikes gender …kind of like a beautiful
witch but carrying itself as if in the male gender…kind of androgynous? At this moment
I don’t want to stop…I’m really where I want to be…
“I’m Peter Rabbit and I’ll stay here with you!”
The witch man/woman bike bursts out laughing and say’s “I will too”.
I look at my hands and they’re paws and we all laugh and descend back to earth…
-a day in Oz…
Epilogue-
I’m talking with a “Sports Basement” Rep on the bad points of “Dork discs”
and “Reflectors” and someone comes up from behind and gives me a big hug! How did she know
that’s what I needed at that moment? My Friend Deyon drags me out to the back of
Sports Basement where I meet the “Enigmatic” Lorrie Lee, the “Infamous” Julie Brown,
Russ Mendivill, Hunter, Anette…so on and so on “I’m back in Kansas now!”
There was an ALC training session for ride leaders going on. Once again I got
the hint about becoming a Ride Training Leader, but I’m not sure I’m ready…confidence
thing…I’m just not there yet.
Such and adventure on this strange planet.
I missed all my friends here today…
