I'm a newbie here & just started into biking. My bike is about 6 months old & a couple times I have gotten it wet in the rain. What can I do for a rusting chain? I occassionaly put Tri-flow on it. Thanks.
Keep it lubed.
Your chain may just be a cheaper kind more prone to rusting than others. And/or the weather conditions in your area may be causing this problem. If it's the latter, replace your chain maybe once a year, whether you use it or not. If it's the former, replace it after a year with a new chain. I kinda like silver colored chains, as they seem easier to visually detect rust on, and they look pretty. Chains are consumable items and relatively cheap. I've worn through them faster than tires.
Keep your chain lubed. Don't store your bike outside. Weather - both rain and sunshine - will damage components.

Don't count out sweating heavily while riding. I've seen a few chains rusted fairly bad on bikes stored inside, caused by a rider that sweats heavily or does triathlons. Keeping the chain well cleaned and well lubed will prevent rusting caused by sweating.
A patina of rust is no big deal especially if it is gone
after the next ride. Rust deep enough to make pits
is another matter and means the chain has lost hundreds of miles of use. It is not what you can see
but what is going on under the rollers that counts.

I leave my bike in the rain all the time. Keep your chain lubed. After a heavy rain or ride on wet roads, re-apply lube.
I apply to the inside of the links, along the bottom run of the chain. Usually, enough spills over the sides to rust-proof the outer plates.
If a chain is realy rusted up, some WD-40 can help free it, but apply some bike lube afterwards. WD-40 is only a short-term lube and washes out
