Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Would it be okay to post some Fort Worth maps here? I know of a couple showing the Trinity Trails and also the city streets that are marked as bike routes:

Doohickie, this post might ought to be it's own thread. Good maps - I ride the Trinity River trail a lot. It's all paved and beats the heck out of White Rock Lake. You see few people... I usually park at Billy Bob's and ride to Lake Benbrook and back - 35 miles.

I keep saying that I'll ride those trails but never get around to do it. I moved here a couple of years ago
but I still have not done any riding beyond commuting to work in Roanoke and running errands.
Your maps might get me out there finally. :D

Hey if you guys do a fort worth thread will you include some of the urban routes that are near shops and cafes and all. My wife and I are thinking about staying the weekend there soon and would like to ride on paths (not roads) but we'd like to do it where we could stop for lunch and shop (hey, she's a wife after all) and stuff like that.
Thanks
Chris

I'm still learning the routes myself, but places to visit are the Fort Worth Stockyards (pop off the trail at 23rd Street and it's only a few blocks), downtown Fort Worth (trail gets off right at the courthouse), Trinity Park (places to eat at Montgomery Plaza (the old Montgomery Ward building on 7th Street).
When I hit the trails I either get on at 183 and the Trinity River (TH5) or Foster Park (TH8), depending on whether I'm starting from work or home. I've ridden from TH5 up to the Stockyards and back... kind of (my wife, who doesn't ride, met me there for lunch and as it happened I bent a rim on a sidewalk edge on the way up, and so she drove me down to Colonel's Bike Shop near TCU for a quick straightening, then I rode the rest of the way home).
Speaking of which.... if you want to check out the TCU area, get off at TH2 and take Rogers to the south. There is a helluva hill to get up, but once you get up it, you come right out on campus.

Don't they have some periodic outdoor concerts or some kind of music along the trinity trail somewhere?

Not sure of exact time yet, but I'll be over there Sunday for a leisurely ride from Billy Bob's down to Benbrook and back. Brother and sister will be with me - he is not a roadie (I'm not either) but he is really new to this so we'll be really taking our time, and probably looking for a place to get a coke and a burger... maybe even a beer.
Chris - answer is yes. I think there is something festive going on at Trinity Park on Saturday or Sunday - gay pride parade and party or something.
And, Doohickie, thanks for that good info. I never get off the trail to look around but maybe I will this time.

I've seen a couple events at Trinity Park already, usually charity walks and stuff. I think the big things over there tend to be in the spring- Mayfest and stuff.
I probably won't be up for a long ride this weekend; I've been neglecting too much stuff at home. Maybe just a little Saturday morning thing.

There are graveled trails in the trail system as well, they are not all paved. I like the trails okay, but sort of prefer White Rock just because there ARE people over there. But come to think of it, I'll be in Fort Worth the next couple of days, I should take my bke. :)

Over the summer on select Sundays there have been electronic dj shows in Trinity Park, right near 7th before the Montgomery Plaza. First instance I saw it it looked like somebody had transplanted a bunch of ravers from a club into the middle of the park, but second time I actually checked it out and they had a couple dj setups in the pavilion and some projectors with trippy **** up on the wall.
I rode through and a crowd member yelled "Rubber side down, bro!" out to me. Looked cool, but I couldnt find a schedule for the events anywhere.

I have been on most of the trinity river trails. Some parts are VERY crowded, say, on saturday mornings. For the most part it is good riding. I think the best section is east of downtown headed out through gateway park. If you need a killer hill, exit on the west side at burton hill or hidden road. Yes, there are hills in cowtown. Like anything else in fort worth, you just gotta look for them.

Parked at Billy Bob's today and rode to Benbrook where the trail ends, and back. Exactly 30 miles. Real nice ride.

Neat.
I was putting a new starter on my wife's Taurus, then we watched my son compete at a marching band competition in Aledo. This is his senior year, so once band is done I might actually be able to meet people for Saturday rides.

Now that I think about it, the time I rode down to Benbrook, it was fairly chilly, and that probably limited the crowds for me.
