Still feel that the cleats are abit vulnerable if you ride a lot in traffic ( so carry a spare cleat ) as a hard foot down can damage the front of the cleat , but other wise a good pedal .

I have those pedals, I got them brand new at a swap meet for 40 bucks.
The cleats aren't overly vulnerable, especially when compared to looks or any other road cleat. I have ridden a couple hundred miles on mine and stopped at plently of lights, no problem so far.
A good pedal system, but on complaint is that the pedal rests with the front up and slightly back, so no-look clip-ins are impossible.

5000+ miles on one set of SPD-SL cleats and still no problems

they were designed to be back heavt so you could engage without looking - try this, instead of trying to put the cleat into th pedal, aim behind it and slide it in - the cleat catches the pedal and clips in without looking.
