Advocacy & Safety - The forum can be distilled to 6 threads.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Oh you forgot the whole Ipod/headphones thing, but if you want you could chuck it in with the helmets thread and rename it Saftey Nanny ranting

I'll play. Here's my "6 thread" synopsis:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Everyone (but me) is an ignorant fool, an inept driver, and is deliberately trying to kill me.

2. Bikes are exactly the same as cars; except that I always have the right of way, don't carry insurance, can ride drunk, and you have to look out for me, or I'll say that you're deliberately trying to kill me.

3. Every bike/car incident is the car's fault.

4. The government/police bother me too much.

5. The government/police don't protect me enough.

6. And six, six, six for my sorrow.

:D :p ;)

It's consistent with the "loop back" id of the OP.

You could distill all the forums, except maybe Foo, to a few threads. It doesn't indicate that this is a useless forum.

That doesn't mean I don't think this is funny :p

-well, 'lane positioning' USED to be the only topic virtually every A&S thread was steered down..... 'railroaded' or 'browbeaten' is more accurate.

A&S is much more communicative and even handed now.

sure!

I always re-acted to newspaper letters and stories that denigrated cycling, so much so that the editor of the paper called me up at home and asked me to write a regular column on cycling to advocate for their (safe) use and acceptance on our city streets.

That's moved me from re-active to pro-active, safe-cycling advocacy.

PS. I'm always looking for ideas to write about and have taken info from this site for my columns

And the Jack-O's who take him seriously and/or respond to his loony ranting/polls.

And those who offer only criticism of others' posts, without any useful, constructive comments - while curiously failing to start any threads of their own, lest they be flamed by yet another Jack-O.

Is there some sort of merit badge/special icon awarded for starting numerous threads, polls, and/or rants? Maybe a booby prize is awaiting for someone who believes "constructive" comments, remarkably, always match his own opinion, while all comments to the contrary are not "useful."

Vehicular Cycling was a lightning rod until it was shunted off to its own sub-forum. Maybe we need a sub-forum for more of the common rant topics. Although helmets do show up as topics, I would say that the existence of the Helmets cramp my style sticky keeps that to a minimum.

Same thing for the topics of cager/cager culture bashing; the posters of such stuff shunted off to Car-Free, along with their theories/guesswork about petroleum macro economics-bicycling interrelationship made for a quieter A&S.

Unfortunately this stuff keeps worming its way back into the A&S and Commuting list by the posts of a couple of glaze-eyed ideologues.

You're not suggesting those who participate in pro-active cycling advocacy are developmentally challenged are you?

The way the subject is treated around here, or maybe not treated is the better descriptive, some appear to see advocacy as developmentally challenged.

On a couple of occasions I've thought of commenting on what seemed like trolling by StangeWill but I didn't, so it's good to see that not only that he admits that he's trolling, but he says he's picking easy trolling
