I went on a hard, long training last weekend that was planned for 65 miles (100 km), but turned into a nearly 85-mile ride after a few of us took some wrong turns on the way back. That distance exceeds, by at least 25 miles, my previous longest ride. I ate and hydrated regularly during the ride, and that evening, I rehydrated, ate everything in sight, and made sure to go to bed a bit early.
A few hours later, my partner awoke me because I was drenched in sweat and the sheets were soaked so thoroughly that we had to change them. (The weather, room temperature, etc. were no different from the previous few days.) That hadn't happened to me before, so I wondered whether it's related to the intensity of my training ride earlier that day. Have any of you had similar experiences? I have another such ride tomorrow and want to know if this is going to be a regular post-ride experience to enjoy!

If it is "night sweats" or sleep hyperhidrosis it could be a symptom of a serious medical problem.

You should see a doctor.

It happens to me from time to time, although not quite as bad (sheets have been pretty wet, but not so much that we had to change them on the spot). Sometimes due to a hard work-out, sometimes not.

Just a thought... maybe it's not just the ride, but also the post-ride eating, etc. Sometimes the additional calories will crank up your metabolism, particularly if you don't overeat on a regular basis.

How long after showering/eating did you go to bed? I find that if I don't allow sufficient time for my body to cool down and then take a hot shower, my internal temp will be high enough that I will sweat for some period of time after showering. Obviously this is made worse if you throw a few layers of clothing on after the shower or perhaps jump into a bed and lock in the heat with sheets and or blankets.

I showered about an hour after the ride, ate a few minutes after that, and went to bed about two-and-a-half hours after that. I don't think that I had on any more bedsheets than usual -- somewhat fewer, in fact. Tomorrow's training ride will be earlier in the day (and should finish earlier!), so there will be more hours between the ride and bedtime. I'll see what happens.

Could you be having a fever? I was having fever recently, and sweated my whole back off. Take care though. Even if it is nothing seriously, do take lots of water to replenish the fluids you have lost through the sweating.
