I found this site. http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx

It allows you to build your course just like you would on google maps. But you can save it to your garmin or computer and you can use this instead of a route sheet.

I haven't used it yet other then to upload a course to my Forerunner. Will experiment with it tomorrow on my commute to work.

I use Bike Route Toaster to see where I want to ride, but haven't had any success at creating a route I can load into my Garmin 705. The only thing I have been able to use to create a route is Garmin's Map Source which works fine.

Check out Geoladders as well. You can download posted routes directly to your Garmin. I don't use the site much but a buddy of mine swears by it.

www.toporoute.com

allows you to save to GPX... I haven't tried loading it onto a garmin. It does give you an elevation profile and auto-snaps to roads.
