Texas - National Night Out Tuesday Oct 7th

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We like our neighborhood and neighbors and have participated in this event the last 6 years on foot. Assuming it doesn't rain tonight we plan to ride instead of walk. Both kids have bikes with training wheels and my wife and I will be on rigid mountain bikes turned road machines. I suspect a good time will be had by all. I'm pretty excited about it since my wife's Hard Rock is finally comfortable for her, slicker tires, upright stem and higher rise bars did the trick.

Anyone else riding bikes in their neighborhood tonight as a part of NNO?

edit: I was just thinking, this would would be a great event for cycling associations to get behind, don't you think? Get the family out on bikes and meet your neighbors, ride the whole neighborhood kind of thing.

We are fortunate in that we live in a neighborhood with very wide streets and no fast moving through streets. I might try and figure out a way to promote cycling next year for this event, at least in our immediate neighborhood.

I am a block co captain. The captain lives next door. I will not be riding to mine, but might get in a ride later.

One community (not in Texas) is having a bike and flashlight parade through their neighborhood tonight. That sounds like it would be a hoot!

I don't know where the night out for the westgrove/tollway area is going to be (on the east side of the tollway, city of dallas). I called the North Central precinct and they referred me to a number where no one answers.

Hmm, I don't remember my employer, a big-city PD, mentioning this at all. Usually, every year, they make a big deal of it, and I have come to work early in the past to drive through my beat for meet-and-greet. My usual shift starts at 10 PM, so I usually don't see the people I protect, as they are sleeping while I patrol.

Perhaps the hurricane caused this to be postponed locally, or took over the attention of the folks who promote this.

Just to be clear, I am not employed by my hometown, Bellaire.
