schadenfreude
Main Entry: scha·den·freu·de
Pronunciation: \ˈshä-dən-ˌfrȯi-də\
Function: noun
Usage: often capitalized
Etymology: German, from Schaden damage + Freude joy
Date: 1895
: enjoyment obtained from the troubles of others
I like how it sounds, plus the Germans have got to have all kinds of crazy going on to come up with one word that encapsulates "cracking up when someone drops a stack of dishes".

Bon Jour:)
After I had dutifully followed the family into the Sephora store in Paris, I was constantly approached by model-class young ladies with samples all saying Bon Jour. It was a good day.

pgoat, can you explain your tattoo? my chinese is very elementary.
it looks like these are the characters: 馬恋男
ma lian nan - what does that mean? hopefully there's a better meaning than the literal translation of each character: horse love man?
Also, why is 馬 written in traditional characters but 戀 is written in it's simplified form (恋)?

I like the word 朋友 (pengyou, pronounced: pung-yo).
It means friend. I often mix the word into English and refer to my friends as "my pengyou's."
Ex1: Hey, pengyou, how are you doing?
Ex2: Honey, I'll be home late tonight. I'm meeting up with some pengyou's after work.
Actually, I think there is a user on these forums with "pengyou" for a screen name.

Poyekhali is good (mentioned earlier by someone with cyrillic characters on their computer), but I'm a fan of stariye myshleniye, which literally means old thinking, and means you are not keeping up with the latest political trends and will probably end up being purged for your wrong thinking ideas.

We peruvians like to mix quechua words in with our spanish, similar to how some mexicans have come to mix english with spanish. Some favorite words are:
Choclo- Corncob/ corn, a favorite addition to any meal.
Michi- Cat.
Chompa- Sweater, as in for cool bicycle rides.
Jerky- Favorite snack.
When I go to mexican food restaurants and ask for choclo I usually get a blank stare. :roflmao2:

That's my favorite, too. Like that word they coined that translated to "the love of driving a VW." Germans are amazing with their words.
derailleur?
About the other ones:
- Is "Huevos" with "H", not "Juevos".... literary translates as "Eggs".
- "Nada" alone does mean "nothing" but "De nada" means "you are welcome".
Oh, I also like this one: ad hominem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem)

Nakakapagpabagabag. Try that for a tongue twister!
Also, since a couple have done российские слова, I shall add "здрасвуйте" to the pile. I think it's the most tongue-twisty word for "hello" ever.

It took me about a month to figure out how to make my tongue do that Z-D-R sound.
