. . . A 20 MM QR and a 20 MM axle? Are the hubs different? Could I buy a fork with a 20 MM axle and then buy like a RS 20 MM QR? I'm so confused about this.

A 20mm hub is a 20mm hub. Pick your hub, pick your fork.

Not all 20mm axles are the same, however. Mostly, the various versions are proprietary to whatever fork brand. If you buy a 20mm equipped fork, the axle for that fork system will come with.

I am looking at a fork that has a marzocchi drop off 4 (not sure on the year) that has a 20 mm axle. If I got something like a sun ringle with a 20 mm front hub it would work right? Would the 20 mm axle be QR, or not? Could I buy an after market QR?

You are stuck with what ever the fork has. If it is QR 20mm then you have it but as far as I know there is no way to turn a non QR 20 fork into a QR 20.

Ok, thanks to both you and scrub. Exactly what I wanted to know. A fork with 20 mm through axle cant be made into a QR 20 then.

QR20 hub is the same as any other 20mm TA hub, if memory serves correct. The difference is in the axle; the QR20 axle had 'rides' machined into it that snuggled in the fork-end QRs. So you HAD to have a Marzocchi QR20 axle to fit the QR20 system. But a QR 20 axle should slide into any 20mm TA hub. The only hitch may be the outboard hub spacer width; but those are changeable parts.

Wait! I re-read your original post and realized you're talking (I thik) about the Rock Shox 20mm Maxle QR, not the Marz QR20. Forget everything I told you; I know nothing about Maxle compatibility. Sorry.

I was more interested in hubs than anything else. I realize that my original question was a bit fuzzy, but I was just using the Maxle as an example.

No, you won't be able to turn that into a 20mm QR version, Maxle, or otherwise. It's what is on the fork. For a wheel, pretty much any 20mm hub will do the trick. A few oddballs out there in the past, but AFAIK everything being made now and for the last couple years should work fine.

Uh, no. They make RWS for standard QR hubs, and rear 10mm axle setups. The only 20mm they appear to make is for their own forks, and is very likely not cross-compatable with any other fork maker.

Assuming you want a DJ type of fork, no. So long as you feel you're getting a good deal. If you're looking for a burly short travel trail fork, there are better/lighter options.

I found one for 80$. I want something at around 100mm to go on probably a Komodo frame to maintain an aggressive stance. My ultimate plan is to get something like an RS Pike U-turn. Truth be told, between saving up for a car and other stuff (like buying my friend pizza in return for driving me places), I only have around 250-300 to spend on frame, fork, and wheel. There is a guy on my local forum willing to sell me a front wheel with a 20 mm hub for 25$, and the frame I'm looking at is 150$ (its new, and I'm going to try to talk him down). I'm also probably going to have to get a new BB and head set. I want something that I can do urban stuff and DJ with (and If I can do those things, obviously I can trail ride with the fork).

Gotcha. Yeah, you gotta do what the budget will allow.

Yeah, I have a really small budget right now because I'm in between the odd jobs I usually do (and about 50% of that is dog sitting and nobody is going on vacation). Once I turn 16 I can get a regular job :)

Anyone got any suggestions for any forks other than the drop off and Dirt jumper that I can get used for sub 100?
