Hoping someone can help me identify a bike. It is either a city commuter or a mountain bike. The unique characteristic is that the top tube is vertically flat. I have seen one go by while I was driving. I also saw celebrity cyclist David Byrne on one. I realize that more than one manufacturer may offer this style. What is the benefit of a veritically flat top tube?
Thanks for any answers.
I believe Byrne was riding/rides the Hummer branded version of the montague folding MTB.

What an odd co-incidence, I saw one of those for the first time last week.

It gives the tube a lot of stiffness in the vertical direction. Notice that that frame member is the only thing giving the bike stiffness in that direction.
