Foo - you know what's sad?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
no one cares about the second POTUS debate tonight....but last week everyone was all ga-ga over Palin
btw, include me in that ..... I am gonna watch at 9 but kinda don't care what happens ... unless there's a major major gaffe, not sure what it'll change.

I'll be watching. I'm curious to see if McCain will actually look at Obama.

Fresh material for Tina Fey is why everyone was so excited and Palin didn't disappoint.

I am so bored with debates. The only reason I was excited about the veep was the Katie Couric action from the previous week.

I cared for neither, so I'm not listening to or watching any of it. I consider the debates to lessen your knowledge of the truth.

I rode my bike and am watching cartoons and BF spy
"That one", really John, "that one"?
The VPOTUS debate had a larger train wreck potential.
I did not watched. I was busy being owned on Mech-Assault by my 8yo. But wife did (very strange thing, she actually cares).

I'm more than happy to wait for the summary in tomorrow morning's news, it'll take about a minute to wade through and wont put me off my corn flakes and beer.
I watched it. Every time McCain walked and moved, it was like he was doing the robot dance.
I watched it. Every time McCain walked and moved, it was like he was doing the robot dance.
And he kept doing it in the background, while BO was speaking....I don't hate JM or anything, but he is really kinda odd...
the "that one" and some other comments were pretty snarky. Other than that negativity from JM and both guys' inability to answer the questions directly or stay within time limits, I thought they both did 'okay'.

I watched as much of the debate as I could stand. I cared. I don't care anymore. The country is obviously going down the crapper no matter who'll be President.
Anyhow, am I the only one on the planet who thinks Palin's HOT?

The country has been going down the crapper for some 15-20 years now, Americans were just to afaid/proud to admit it. and although I think shes nothing but a puppet, I also think shes got a few miles left on her :D I say shes do-able :thumb: ;)

I watched.
Nothing exciting, but I think they both embarrassed themselves.
Very few questions were answered directly.
The one that was answered in the time limit came with self-congratulations... but at least one was answered in the time limit
The general stimulus plans presented seemed unreasonable.
I'll cut taxes, and expand programs.
I'll buy everyone's house that has lost value at the higher price, and sell it back to them at the current lower price.
Really???? I am not an economist, but I don't see the possibility of either of these stopping a recession unless there is some new math somewhere that turns red ink into black ink.

Umm, no
Am I the only one who thinks she's 'meh'?

Ahh, campaigns....is there anything they can't promise to do?

I have to get out of this ****ing country. LET ME OUT
Since when did a "debate" consist of completely dodging questions and rehashing talking points. Disappointing. Brokaw did okay, though...trying to get them to prioritize between enviro/healthcare/entitlements & asking if healthcare was a right/responsibility/etc. Also liked his question about who would you nominate as next Treasury Sec. You could see the relief on BO's face that McCain got blindsided with it first. A letdown, though, all around.

:roflmao2: Heres a link to a film showing McCain just after GW paid for his bionic transplant surgery, but just before they placed human flesh over his new robotic frame. (They couldnt get his arms to go any higher though :( )

I think they should could slapped or maybe electrocuted every time they talk about the other candidate.
regarding the income tax situation, it seems it would be beneficial to put together a chart of 5 or so individuals/families/small business/corporations, plot their incomes along a timeline and then show their tax liability over the 4 years the candidate will be in office. McCain always talks about the tax cuts expiring and barack always has his spiel about not paying a cent more... whatever. Just show us the numbers.

that's the problem. Not a true debate.
I like when the candidates are seated close to each other - like Bush and McCain were back in 2000, and Cheney and Edwards in 2004....not that it's the cure-all, but seems to lend an intimacy that helps work against the grandstanding and soundbyte repetition.

Not saying that his ideas and thoughts on how to run our country are going to work or not, but Obama is thinking outside the box, for that alone I hope he wins. Never know, he just might accomplish something thats actually good for us. If he doesnt its no big deal as none of the others have either. :)
People don't seem to understand, that the debates only serve to show that a candidate can hold a point for a reasonable amount of time.
The candidates cannot tell the truth; the American electorate has shown that it can and will shoot the messenger.
For people to expect a point by point detailed plan in a campaign is absolutely ludicrous. First of all, they don't know all of the constraints, and second of all, people will remember a pointed promise. So most of their time is spent hedging. They have no choice.

This is, of course, one hundred per cent accurate. Recall that when George H. W. Bush pledged not to raise taxes, it was probably the only thing anyone remembered about anything he said during the campaign. So when he manned up and did what he needed to do for the counrty (i.e. raise taxes), he got slaughtered. When Walter Mondale said during the campaign that he would raise taxes if it were necessary, he lost in a landslide. Of course, his opponent--Reagan--later raised taxes.
The American electorate will never accept the notion that it cannot simultaneously have increased services and lower taxes; absolute safety from terrorism and no inconvenience resulting from it; inexpensive healthcare and the ability to see a doctor whenever and for whatever reason they want; etc., etc. When politicians can't deliver all this, it will become their fault because they lied to us. Even though we wouldn't vote for them if they told us the truth. So, it's all their doing. And the media's.

Cheney/Edwards 2004 was good stuff, Ifill really knocked them around...too bad she was constrained for Palin/Biden. I used to do Lincoln/Douglas, I watch these "debates" and just get furious. Town hall format sucks.
Imagine if JM had his way - what was he asking for - like, 10 or 12 Town Halls instead of any standard format debates?

I'd have to cleat the tv & radio. There were some surprisingly good questions sent in, not so surprisingly, they weren't really answered by the two party monopoly figureheads.
They seemed to have a good demographic sampling too...not too homogeneous, which was nice....

Did you see that question, "What don't you know, and how will you learn it?" What have they got, idiots writing the questions?
I would have voted for whoever would have answered like this:
I don't know what I don't know. If I knew what it was that I didn't know then I wouldn't have to learn it.
^ That was weird. These, though, were well thought out, and frankly, I'm surprised they used them, assuming they did come from the public. *yes, my opinion of the public really is that low.
QUESTION: Should the United States respect Pakistani sovereignty and not pursue al Qaeda terrorists who maintain bases there, or should we ignore their borders and pursue our enemies like we did in Cambodia during the Vietnam War?
QUESTION: Senator, selling health care coverage in America as the marketable commodity has become a very profitable industry. Do you believe health care should be treated as a commodity?
BROKAW: Should we fund a Manhattan-like project that develops a nuclear bomb to deal with global energy and alternative energy or should we fund 100,000 garages across America, the kind of industry and innovation that developed Silicon Valley?
the health care commodity question was very good and was totally ignored by both. My wife, who works in health care was fuming. (She summed up by saying "well, just goes to show neither candidate knows a damn thing about how health care works")
