I wanted to say thanks to a couple of riders who helped me today on highway 66, Boulder County Colorado. Today while out for a short spin during lunch I had a flat – first flat all summer and I’ve been riding about 10 hours a week. In fact, only a few minutes before I had congratulated myself on the no flat streak (I’ll never do that again).

When I attempted to inflate the new tube the compressed air simply vanished - it turned out that a hole had been rubbed in my spare tube by the tire irons in the seat bag. I had no pump or patch kit and had only the one, now used, compressed air canister.

The riders who helped me provided a pump and gave me a spare tube – their generosity was genuine and they were not annoyed at having their ride interrupted. When I asked for a way to contact them to repay their help they just said “Someday you’ll get to help someone out …”

So, for now on I’ll carry a spare tube, patch kit, pump and the same attitude and willingness to help a stranded cyclist the two riders who helped me displayed.

Thank you again who-ever you are!

:)

I've given away tubes, patched tubes for others, and/or loaned my pump on several occasions.

Carry two spare tubes. One for yourself, one for someone else, and a patch kit - just in case!

I've had the pleasure of assisting several folks. My reward is the same - that they help someone else.

Nice post.

I was on a group ride on Sunday and 4 of us flatted on 66 eastbound, about a mile west of Hwy 25. Didn't see any glass in that area, but there was some west of there.

Glad someone helped you out.

Wish I could have been the one to help, I was on 66 between Pace and 95th in Longmont during lunch. Saw one guy on the side on 95th but he had a buddy and said they had everything.

What a glorious day to be out.

Enjoy it while we can.

My son rides a large Worksman 3 wheeler.

Last week, he rode (and I walked) to Burger King for our Friday lunch together, and - a goat head sunk its teeth into the front wheel.

No pump. no repair, as it is only 1.5 miles.

But, we had to have my wife bring a floor pump, and we pumped it up 6 times (20x1.75) just to be able to get back.

I just put in a new slime tube. And a new pump and extra tube and patch kit.

I hate goat heads.
