Why is it everytime I try to post a reply, I write an answer and I have been logged off and have to copy my post, re-log in, paste my post and then submit? We are only talking 2-3 minutes and I'm logged off.

First thing, clear your cookies. That usually solves this issue.

It doesn't work for me. Any more bright ideas?

Make sure you click the Remember Me tick-box up there when you log on. I had this problem for a while, and none of the technical gurus would help -- in fact, they inferred I was a complete dope who couldn't navigate around a website.

The trouble is, that you have to log off if you are using a public computer, otherwise said computer with "remember" your user name and automatically log you in, if the computer is used by another individual seeking to use BF.

Anyway, I figured it out myself and am happy to pass on the information.

Now, where is that other thread about a message coming up on posting about redirection and opting for a poll?

Today I've had an auto-log-off issue a lot worse than teh OP's complaint, and really this is not the first time. It's not that bad if I get booted in the act of "submitting reply" to a thread reply, and the system remembers my submission when I log back in. What I had today was an absolute waste of my time and effort - It logged me off upon submission, then when I logged back in it took me to the usual Forums list first page. When I went to the Forum and Thread I had been trying to reply to, my text was absolutely gone! After working on it steadily for 45 minutes, a carefully thought-out response was just lost.

This is not acceptable. It's extremely frustrating. I just cleared my cookies, and the Remember Me tick is always checked.

I have complained about this several times, and usually something seems to be done that is not reported to me to resolve the problem, but it is only temporary. Not only is the occurrence not acceptable, but the recurrence is not acceptable. If its a matter of my account setup, make it a VISIBLE feature so can manage it myself. I have enough computer literacy to do this, and much more.

How do I get off this "don't let this guy post his thoughts" list? I really can't imagine what else it is.

Prove me wrong, mods. I HAVE HAD IT WITH THIS PROBLEM.

By the way, clearing cookies may not always work, so if anyone else is experiencing this issue, please let us know so we can look at it deeper if this is the case and not just isolated incidents....

Do what I would do. Open a Notepad and compose first. It will be a lot esaier to edit it quickly and paste it in while freshly logged in.

The average timeout of these forums seems to be a few to ten minutes. Be prepared and prepare.

:p I just lit a bright idea up there about an inch or so.

It's a chronic problem, and it's really annoying.

My computers typically stay logged in for 10-15 minutes. I can browse a few threads, post a bit, then leave the PC. When I come back, I'm logged out.

This happens on :

- Work PC with Firefox 3.0, IE 7
- Work Server PC with IE 7
- Home PC with Firefox 3.0, IE 7

Hell it even happened on a Nokia internet tablet running Opera.

It almost makes posting here impossible. Of course I have the "Remember me" box ticked; it simply doesn't work.

If this is a policy that you auto-logout users out after 10 minutes or so, it's the end of my time posting here. Not that one person matters, but who wants that hassle? eBay is less anal about logouts!

No policy like that....I've been continuously logged in sometimes for as long as 4 or 5 days.

I use Firefox 3, IE7, Safari and even obsolete browsers, like Netscape for test purposes.

My problem is on my computer click the remember me and if I leave the page and come back later have to sign in again. I stay signed in on other forums even after few days with computer off. I can not close IE on here and come back with out signing in everytime. Is there any fix or is it just me.

Maybe it's a setting on your end? I don't have that problem on any of my browsers. I use the remember me on all of them and only have to re-log on the Netscape if I haven't used it in a while, for an example. Others, just fine and no problems. I'm not saying it isn't happenong to you, but I'm not sure what is going on.

Tahks but this is the only forum that I regularly visit that will not remember me and have to sign in on every visit.

I'm not totally certain anymore why this bugs folks unless they tend to lose their posts (CUT AND PASTE!). I am also certain eBay has no good forums and maybe a lot more Freds!

From a security standpoint and as a 29 year veteran of computers I tend to think continuous logon is not always a great idea, especially on small forums (This ain't one but)...

How did you set your browser? Are your cookies enabled properly? I experience the auto logoff too but I will read a while BEFORE I often go in and log on. If you are going to just make one comment it won't hurt to lurk.

I realize you are frustrated but please take some time to look through this section and any other for tricks and tips. I think you will like learn to sigh at a few warts. We aim to please but it's Internet Brands' forums and our efforts. You will find no end of help and people eager to get it working.

Search? It's more bipolar than I am!

Thanks for writing, best of luck and HANG IN THERE!

rollfast thanks for the words but I'm just going to live with it. Cookies are enabled and I have about 5 regular forums I visit with no problem. This is not a real problem just thought might be something to look into.

You beat me to the punch while I was just telling somebody else nearly the same thing. Too many nice things to get mad about the quirks. Like being MARRIED almost. Unless that quirk is the subject of a country song I guess!

Enjoy your holiday and don't forget to find the inevitable presents thread and let us know if you got a Record you just can't play or something!

I don't think the problem is at my end. I do cut and paste, but I don't feel that should be necessary. If you're using "Quick Reply" your post will be lost when you're logged out. If you're using the "Reply with Quote" or "Advanced Reply" the post will be remembered when you're logged out.

The frustration is that this usually happens when you're spending a few minutes to craft a thoughtful or well researched post. (Believe it or not, I do that once in a great while.)
