Some of you may recall my question in foo about testing for headphone imbalance. If so, you likely recall that I had sent away these headphones for repair at their service center in Ohio. Well I just received my headphones today.....broken. The ear piece has completely been snapped off, wires just hanging around.

Note the aluminum cone on the head, this is where the ear muff snapped.

I don't know if this something Audio Technica did, or UPS did. The box was fairly well packed...

Who should I press for this? If UPS made a mistake, does Audio Technica need to replace the headphones? How hard should I push for new ones?

UPS, since they have a habit of botching up packages no matter how well it's packaged.

Do I need to contact UPS myself, or does Audio Technica?

usually it's the job of the shipper to initiate the claim. So that means you contact AT that your package didn't arrive in one piece.

I just called them. The service lady says that she remembers my headphones, and that this was UPS' fault. They are out of stock, otherwise they'd send me a replacement right away. So this means I have to pay -- using my own money -- to send these back for overhaul.

man... that sucks...
all money and value of the item is refunded to the shipper once the shipping company gets a hold of the broken package.
it really costs AT nothing other than time to deal with UPS.
