I haven't been able to find a 56 olive LHT complete anywhere online, anyone else having buying issues? Sounds like I'll have to wait until december 15th for this.

Try going to a LBS that carries Surlys. My guess is they can order one direct from distributor.

QBP (manufacturer/distributor of Surly stuff) seems to sell out of LHTs pretty often. Despite what you (er, we) may think, it's not a terribly common bike. I had to place a deposit at the LBS and wait a few weeks for shipment when I got mine last June. Apparently, QPB doesn't take pre-orders, so if you go to an LBS and order an LHT it's up to the shop to keep checking for when your desired color and size are in stock :(

Good luck, and keep checking around other online shops. Also check the Surly owners group HERE (http://groups.google.com/group/SurlyLHT/topics)on Google Groups. Sometimes bikes or frames come up for sale. Even if you have to wait, it's worth it! Plus that gives you more time to put away cash for fun add-on gear :thumb:

I had the option of getting it in blue online, but I will wait and tour with my mountain bike for now.

There's a 60 cm one in West Milford, NJ.

Jensonusa.com have quite a few olive ones in, but no 56cms. You could try contacting Surly directly.

I have had trouble getting a 56cm frame, in fact I had contacted tons of stores. I ended with two dealers completing the order and shipping to me on the same day. I will be reselling one of them, but this is for the frameset only.

I decided to get an lht recently and casually asked someone at my LBS when I was there for parts for another project. He mentioned having supply problems and that he had just gotten one in for someone who had been waiting (for about a week) on a frame set from the distributor. He remembered checking the computer when it came in and saw only 3. I realized that I should probably order there and then if I was to get one at all. To his surprise they were completely out. He called the distributor who said they would have no more coming in. Then he called Surly who said I would likely have to wait until 2009. I immediately called another bike shop closer to my house that I know has several locations to see if they possibly stocked them. They did not, however, they did have a different distributor who was in stock. I gave my credit info over the phone and luckily got the LHT which I am building now. The impression I got from both stores was that supplies of the 2008 are running out, so if you are considering buying, you should buy now.

This was in Ann Arbor, MI and Metro Detroit. My frame size was 56cm. Other sizes might be easier to find.

found a bianchi volpe on craigslist for 700$, thing is I don't really want a volpe all that badly, but this is a pretty damn good deal. It's a 2008, has a weak rear rack, sunlite front panniers, a krypto lock, a frame pump, and some lights. I really have been looking forward to getting the long haul trucker for a long time, but again won't be able to get it until december. Try to convince me that this is a killer deal and I should go for it.

The 56cm is the most popular model from what the stock status is. It is almost consistently sold out. My LBS is an authorized distributor of Surlys for all of Korea, and they called Surly and there were a couple of blue 56cm available. Currently there is a huge waiting list for the 56cm in olive. I thought I should have been on a 56cm but when I got sized, I was due for a 58cm and after putting a 20% deposit down, they ordered it from Surly and it was here in less than a week. Good luck getting one in.

Assuming you are going to buy a pre-built LHT, you will be saving probably around $250-$300 (including those accessories?) if you buy the Volpe? The questions are:

1. Are you willing to save ~$300 to get a bike you didn't want in the first place? (though for all I know the Volpe might be an absolutely terrific bike, and just what you want and fits your needs.)

2. If you could buy the LHT right now, in the size and colour you want, would you consider the Volpe still?

Personally when I buy a new bike, I want the bike I want, if you know what I mean, and ~$300 is an amount where I'd prefer to wait.... December isn't that far away -much less time than the time you'd probably put in riding a bike you might not want and the time spent regretting wishing you'd bought the bike you really wanted.

Keep looking for a LHT....you are bound to find one new or used if you keep looking. I've go nothing against the Volpe, but if that's not the bike you want don't waste your time and $$$ on it.

You are looking for a popular bike at a tough time. This is the lag between when the 08' models have sold out and before the 09' models arrive. I am looking at QBP right now online and they have a few completes in the extreme sizes (ie. 42cm, 46cm, 50cm, 60cm and 62cm). Arrival on the 09's is listed as December. I am waiting for a Surly rear Nice Rack. They had them two weeks ago and sold out of them fairly quickly.

Has anyone heard what frame color choices will be offered on the 09 LHTs?

www.bikeman.com has olive 56cm completes in stock. I have bought from this guy before, he's super nice and knows his stuff. Shipping was fast and secure.

I ordered new handlebars from them just this morning. These bars seemed to be sold out everywhere I've checked. Their website showed they had them in stock so I called just to be sure before I placed my order on-line. I've ordered from Bikeman before. Good merchant.

bikeman did not have them actually. I bought a bike though, for their updated price of 1100.

Try Speedgoat. Old price. None of the internet shops actually stock them--they just call Surly and have it shipped with their QBP load for the day/week. Most shops operate this way with the Surlys--they might keep a few in stock as sales tools, but then order the correct size when needed. Speedgoat is a good shop.

In Minneapolis, we actually have a shop that stocks all of the Surly bikes in complete size-runs! (Unless Surly doesn't have any.) Hub bike Co-op.
