My dad works at Cabelas and gets a discount on GPS units. I want the least expensive that is waterproof, will do track long term mileage and per ride mileage, and will let me load more than one route (if any do that). He just went through the training on the Oregon, but they gave his department a cursory overview, as he's in truck accessories, and the handhelds are sold in hunting.

Also, are these acceptable for use in vehicles as well (Im trying to get on the bike even more, but for long trips, etc. I want to take it in the car, especially for that kind of money).

I'll be purchasing at the end of the month.

Look at the garmin Edge 305 or 705... very good machines, and getting better all the time.

i use my PDA as my speedometer / GPS for biking

GPS usually doesn't work on rainy days anyways, so when it rains, i just pack it up.

I'm torn between a 305 and Vista HCx right now.

I use my GPS on rainy days on my bike. Actually wouldn't be without it in any weather. Of course if you sit in a metal garage during the rain it might have trouble picking up satellites.
