Winter Cycling - Which Pogies are best?

I'm looking into pogies to outfit on my Pugsley for this upcoming winter. I've found a few on-line, but was hoping to hear what everyone on here had to say.

So far the best ones I've found (for what I want) are the Toasties by Apocalypse Designs and the Poagies by Dogwood Designs. Both are out of Alaska (go figure). I also like the Epic Designs pogies but they are a little 'extreme' for what I plan on using them for, and a little costly too.

Thoughts?

Some of the guys got (barmitts.com) for this winter, and some of the guys are trying moose mitts(trails-edge.com) we will weight them both out and see which ones are the best.. they both fit road bikes...will let you know when we know... joe

I have these (http://www.sidetrak.com/Catalog/cooldays.html) (scroll down) Climitts and they are really nice - velcro on both sides to make an easy on/off installation. Kind of cordura on the outside with fleece inside. I us a pair of wool mittens and stay warm to -30F but light gloves when not very cold ~32F

My $.02, any of the "Made in Alaska" you mention are top notch" Mushers, bikers concur. Whether or not they are to much for you conditions only you can say, can you ever be to warm :-)

bar mitts rock, i've used them in very cold weather and my hands which usually are cold in the winter were very warm using just light gloves inside. fits over drop bars.

I have been happy with the moose mitt pogies. I have been using them for several weeks, and they are great. I ride at night with them. No complaints.

One thing ive found out about moose mitts is, you can stach a cell phone inside, snot rag, or put in a hand warmer if you like, the extra room is great!!

First I am biased, but Moose Mitts are my choice. We made these originally becuase many "pogie" companies were missing a few things we wanted...and we keep looking for improvements.

Second - Are you guys riding the New Road mitts this season or the older standard mitts ? Just looking for feedback on the roadies becuase their new and we want some honest feedback. We have had several test riders locally...but it is always good to hear from others around the country.

+1 on the Climmits. These may not be the best, but at around $37 they are extreamly reasonable in price and have worked fatasticlly well. I got them right at New Year. Since then most commutes have been in the mid teens to low single digits for the last few weeks. I can wear a very light pair of full fingered gloves and be comfy for my 5 mile commute. Simple, inexpensive, and appear to be well made... that is an excellent combination.

I also got the toe clip covers. Those work very nicely we well.

Mike - do Moose Mitts work well with a Titec H-bar?

Mike, i have the road mitts, and like them pretty well, i sewed a piece of elastic right on top of the drops,same size you use for the bars so it goes over the drops and holds everything in line,other than i just added some small spring clips to hold hand warmers on the inside when i want to use them,the mitts are great and have plenty of room for a snot rag! thanks, joe

+1 for the Moose Mitts! We just ordered our second pair, after fighting over who would get the first! :thumb:

Those Road Mitts are wide open! I understand that they're designed that way so you can use the entire bar, but that's a major compromise in terms of insulating value...

I got some Dogwood Designs pogies under the Christmas tree and have been very happy with them. No basis for comparison with others, though...

I bought a pair of the Dogwood Designs before winter and they're great. Not only do they keep your hands warm, but something about insulating your forearms ends up warming everything else. I wear only some cheapie drug store wool gloves underneath and I've been warm down to -25 or so this winter. In fact I had to scale down the rest of my clothing so I don't over heat.

No web site, but placing the order over the phone was probably faster and when they showed up, they were as well built I could ever need. Best money I ever spent.
